Illinois State wins CBI championship with victory over Cleveland State
Caden Boser scored a season-high 20 points, Chase Walker was named the College Basketball Invitational most valuable player, and Illinois State beat Cleveland State 79-68 on Wednesday night to claim the championship. The Redbirds closed the season with a 22-14 record, the program's first time reaching the 20-win plateau since the 2016-17 season. ISU moves into CBI championship game
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Illinois State is headed to the College Basketball Invitational title game. Chase Walker scored 27 points and Ty Pence recorded his first collegiate double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead ISU past Incarnate Word, 78-73, in the CBI semifinals on Tuesday. The Redbirds will play for the CBI title Wednesday against either Cleveland State or Florida Gulf Coast. ISU scored ten of the final 13 points of the game to win it. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chase Walker had 27 points in Illinois State's 78-73 win over Incarnate Word on Tuesday night in the CBI semifinals. Walker had eight rebounds for the Redbirds (21-14). Ty Pence scored 15 points while finishing 6 of 11 from the floor and added 10 rebounds. Johnny Kinziger shot 3 of 9 from the field, including 1 for 5 from 3-point range, and went 6 for 8 from the line to finish with 13 points.
