Chase and Status bring perfect mix of epic tunes to storm gig at Co-op Live
Chase & Status, Co-op Live, Manchester As the sun set on a gloriously, sweltering day in Manchester, the city's Co-op Live was packed to the rafters and ready to party. It might not have been quite as hot as the desert of Coachella, but Chase & Status continued their 2025 gigs with all the fire you'd expect from electronic music trailblazers Saul Milton and Will Kennard. The London duo were back in the city that holds a special place in their hearts on Thursday night, for a gig of the most epic proportions. The tunes came thick and fast for 90 minutes, blending the older and new songs to absolute perfection. Flames and lasers shot out across a stadium that bounced and raved, seemingly without a care in the world, as belter after belter delighted the crowd of thousands. With Saul and Will DJ-ing firmly behind their signature light-up 'C' and 'S', a host of show-stopping MCs kept the night flowing: 'We wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the beautiful people of Manchester. Make some noise for yourselves!', before launching into Blind Faith. This is Chase and Status live. — Chase & Status (@chaseandstatus) May 2, 2025 Other songs on the setlist from the 2011 album No More Idols included the gloriously angry Let You Go, party-starting No Problem, and delightfully depressing End Credits. The thing that Chase & Status do so beautifully, along with their collaborators, is blend great lyrics with drum n bass, dance, rave, and jungle, creating big beats like no other. And a word to the venue. This is the fourth time I've been to the Co-op Live, and I'd say this gig was the one that really showed it off. Hats off to Chase & Status for the epic production because they brought it – but the incredible acoustics of the arena along with the pyrotechnics and lights was next level. And they were there in spades. I hardly saw a single person sat down for the duration of the gig. The number one with Stormzy adorning the screens – Backbone - was obviously a highlight as was Becky Hill collab Disconnect, and Liquor and Cigarettes with ArrDee giving it large on stage. Too many to mention but a final shout-out goes to support act 4am Kru, what a warm-up. They made the stage their own and with a crew as solid as Chase & Status, that was a hard act to follow. An incredible night, if you've got a ticket for the rest of the tour then you're in for a treat. Massive UK music venue ranked one of the best in the world to shut its doors for good in a matter of WEEKS
A massive UK music venue, which is ranked among the best in the world, is set to shut its doors in a matter of weeks. Motion has been at the heart of Bristol's famed nightlife scene for more than two decades, with stars including The Chemical Brothers, Chase and Status and Rudimental all taking to the stage. The club is regularly mentioned among the best venues in the world - and came out on top in the DJ Mag Best of British Awards's category for the Best Large Club in the UK. But now they are set to lose their iconic Grade II listed venue - a former skatepark - and are launching a last to try and find a new venue, as they ask for money from their loyal patrons. On their Crowdfunder, the owners said: 'For nearly 20 years, Motion has been at the heart of Bristol's nightlife - a place where music unites people and unforgettable memories are created. 'What started as a skate park in a former gasworks has grown into one of the UK's most respected venues, welcoming artists from around the world and generations of music lovers. More than just a club, Motion has been a home for creativity, community, and connection. 'Unfortunately, we've recently received confirmation that our lease will not be renewed when it expires in July 2025, placing the future of the venue in serious jeopardy. The industrial warehouse in which it is based consists of five indoor venues, with the main room capable of hosting 1,600. The owners are said to have attempted to buy the property but have been unsuccessful in their attempts. Its sister venue The Marble Factory, which is also set to close, focuses on live music. They continued: 'In response, we've submitted a bid to purchase the property in an effort to safeguard Motion's legacy. 'However, as time passes and with no response from the landowners, it's becoming increasingly clear that the opportunity to stay is slipping away. 'But we're not giving up. We've made the decision to take matters into our own hands and start the search for a new home for Motion. And we need your help to make it happen.' The club is now battling to keep its hopes alive as it raises money with tickets to a closing party, limited edition merchandise and even lifetime passes. Their 'Last Dance' is set to be hosted on July 19, with their closig series starting on May 4. In a social media post launching their closing celebrations, they said: 'Times change, moments fade, but connection remains. 'The call of the dancefloor pulling us back to it's warm embrace. United by the music, the vibe, the pulse that brings us together for fleeting moments that last forever.'
