Former The Chase contestant reveals why winners are told not to share the prize fund
The Chase has been on air via ITV since 2009 - and while winning the show is a rare event, one former contestant has revealed secret advice he was given about the prize money A former contestant from The Chase has revealed details of what happens if a team win the show - and the advice ITV gives regarding eliminated teammates and the prize fund. Viewers of the ITV show will be well aware that success is rare on the general knowledge quiz show. A group of four team together to test their knowledge against one of the genius Chasers - which includes Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Jenny Ryan, Darragh Ennis and Paul Sinha. The brain boxes play under the respective code names The Beast, The Dark Destroyer, The Governess, The Vixen, The Menace and The Sinnerman. After the individual rounds, where the contestants try to get home without being caught, the team then take on the chaser in another round of general knowledge. If the team answer more questions correctly than the Chaser, they win the prize fund that has been amassed over the course of the show - but the money is divided between those that succeeded. If a teammate is eliminated before the final, the winning team members are seemingly advised not to share any of the money with team members who were caught during the chase rounds. A former contestant named Steven Sneade, 69, from Liverpool, revealed all to the Daily Mail. He said: "If you win you have to sign another contract as you're accepting money from them. They told us not to give money to the contestants who didn't win money just because you feel sorry for them. "They can't stop you, but I think they just don't want you to have that in mind. They said it could take three months, but I had it in a week." The Chase has been on the air since 2009 and has aired over 2,500 episodes so far. The long-running game show is hosted by Bradley Walsh, 65 - who also hosts a variety of other shows, including the BBC series Gladiators. While he has been helming the show for 16 years, the entertainer has revealed he has no plans to walk away from the show. In a recent interview, he explained he would quit if the series lost its audience. He said: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off, I'll do it. We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world." He also reflected on filming the pilot episode, which was recorded back in 2008 with chasers Shaun Wallace and Mark Labbett involved. He recalled: "The audience was made up of ITV bosses and they found someone in the office to be a contestant." "Straight away I took the contestant's side. I saw the Chasers as these big, all-knowing, bully types, so I started taking the mickey out of them. When they got a question wrong, I really gave it to them, and everyone was laughing. That's when I knew we had something." The Chase has spawned a number of spin-offs - with celebrity specials and a version of the show were contestants can take on the whole line-up of chasers. International versions of the show have appeared in 20 other countries including Australia, the USA, Spain and Germany. Some members of the UK version of The Chase have appeared in international versions - with Mark and Shawn featuring in the line-up in Australia.

Anne Hegerty reveals pay details for ITV's The Chase with Mark Labbett
The Chase star Anne Hegerty, also known as The Governess, has opened up about how much the popular chasers are paid and why she doesn't want a new one to join the team. Anne Hegerty has shed light on the payment structure for the Chasers on the hit quiz show, explaining that there's no fixed salary involved and their earnings are not guaranteed. Speaking to the Mirror at the TV Choice Awards last week, Anne, who boasts an estimated net worth of £3.2 million, shared that she and her fellow Chasers aren't too keen on the idea of a new addition to their group in the near future. The reason being that they're paid per episode, which means a new Chaser would mean the existing budget would have to be spread even thinner. The I'm A Celebrity star went into detail: "We are paid per show, so we're not on a salary. It's not as if they're going to up the budget and add a new salary, a new chaser would just mean the same number of shows shared between more people - so less money for everyone. So, hope not!" Despite the risk of decreased income with the arrival of a new Chaser, Anne expressed no ill feelings towards Darragh Ennis, who joined the team in 2020, ten years after Anne first appeared. "You know, Darragh has been a very good new addition, he's very popular, and that's worthwhile," she said. Anne also opened up about her off-screen camaraderie with her fellow quizzing giants. Despite their competitive nature during the show, Anne confirmed that they get along well behind the scenes, reports Bristol Live. She added: "We know each other, and certainly on Beat the Chasers we tend to hang out a lot, because we're all there at the same time," revealing the friendly dynamics among the cast. Despite not earning a regular wage from her appearances on The Chase, the financial triumph of her company, Frosty Knickers Ltd, is evident, with reports in August 2023 revealing a hefty £807,000 sitting in the bank. Yet Anne is not one to frivolously spend her earnings. In a discussion about her expenditure habits last year, she quipped: "I'm half Scottish. We don't spend money and, being a fat person, I can only buy from certain places." She added humorously. "I like my money sitting in my bank and representing a bit of security. I don't see the point in sloshing money around. I'm not frugal, I'd actually say I'm mean." Before finding fame on television, Anne faced challenging times as a journalist, recounting how she was "getting more and more swamped by admin and losing more work". Nevertheless, this thrifty individual does indulge in some luxuries, opting for first class and business flights, and allowing herself the pleasures of 'Club Med' during her travels.

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Television star Anne Hegerty, known for her role on The Chase, revealed that she was asked a rather direct question by one of her ITV colleagues during a quiz competition. Anne was chatting with Clayton Bjelan on his podcast Towards Understanding about her career when she recalled an encounter with a fellow quizzer who informed her about a new show he was working on for ITV. The Chase star, celebrating her 67th birthday today, shared: "[One] month I went to the British end of the world championships in which I did pretty well and I went to the bar to get a drink before lunch. "As I stepped inside the bar I was greeted by what I've since described as the largest man I've ever seen in my life and he said 'Hi! My name's Mark Labbett, you beat me last month, who are you?'" "He said, 'I've just finished recording the pilot series for this show' and he described the format." Since joining The Chase, the very show Mark had filmed the pilot series for as one of the Chasers in 2010, Anne has won over viewers and remained a staple on the programme. She joined The Chase a year after Mark's debut in 2009 and they have both since become recognisable figures in the public eye. She also participated in I'm A Me Out Of Here! and spoke about the effects of an unexpected rise to fame, which involves a great deal of social interaction. Speaking to Best magazine, she confessed: "There are times when I would like to have a less social life than I do. The thing is, I could say 'No' more, so really, that's on me. I'd quite like it if things were not so busy, but then if they weren't so busy, I'd worry." (Image: ITV) Besides her role on the British game show The Chase, Anne participates in the Australian version alongside Mark and has opened up about how being autistic has impacted her personal relationships. During The Chasers Road Trip, she discussed a four-month relationship, expressing her struggle with romantic expectations. She explained: "He was a lovely bloke but I am just not good with the sort of attention that people need." Talking OK! Magazine, she elaborated on her experiences of love and relationships. She said: "I fall in love with historical or fictional characters. People I can put a bit of distance between. "I get overwhelmed in the presence of actual people and everything shuts down. I've found that with sex, too. It's like I can't be fully in it. That much intimacy, I almost zone out."

The Chase's Shaun Wallace makes cheeky confession about co-star Bradley Walsh
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Shaun Wallace shared a hilarious spin on what he thinks of his "mad" fellow co-star Bradley Walsh. The Chase, which first aired on ITV back in 2009, has been a huge hit among many viewers across the UK. Shaun first hit TV screens in 2004 when he appeared and won Mastermind before establishing himself as one of the Chasers. Now having worked with presenter Bradley on the show for many years, he poked fun at his co-star in a light-hearted video online. He can be seen standing among trees in a wooded area while wearing a neon lime green top and jeans. He told his 98,100 followers: "There's no great genius without some touch of madness. Now, some people may say Bradley Walsh is a genius - I just think he's mad.' He then gave the camera a thumbs up and added: 'Cheers, Brad.' In the caption accompanying the clip, Shaun penned: 'Let's face it, Brad's no genius apart from at corpsing." Corpsing is a common term in film, television and theatre and is used to describe the moment an actor breaks character by laughing. The term is believed to have originated and become popular as a result of actors who kept laughing while their character was supposed to be a corpse. Bradley is famous for erupting into fits of laughter at certain questions on The Chase, typically delighting the contestants and even the usually composed Chasers, as well as viewers at home. Shaun's video racked up hundreds of likes, with many fans wishing him well in the comments section. The Chase is a popular quiz show which is known and loved up and down the country. It first hit screens in June 2009, with both Bradley and Shaun appearing in the first ever episode. It's quite a simple premise which sees a team of strangers work together in a bid to build a lucrative cash jackpot. Each contestant first has to tackle a solo cash builder round where host Bradley asks them a string of rapid general knowledge questions. Each correct answer results in £1,000 being added to their potential jackpot fund. After this, they then face one of the eponymous Chasers - each one a quizzing expert - in a head-to-head. This round sees them playing to keep the sum they earned in their cash builder round, or accepting one of the Chaser's offers of a much higher cash prize - at a cost of having to answer another question - or slashing their money by accepting a lower offer, which results in one less question to answer. All players who are successful against the Chaser in their head-to-head make it to the 'Final Chase', where they can work together to try and answer as many questions correctly in just two minutes to try and win the accumulated prize fund. This round is similar to the cash builder, only this time, each correct answer adds to the number of questions the Chaser must answer in the same amount of time. For example, if a team answers 20 questions correctly in their allotted time, the Chaser has 20 questions to answer successfully to prevent them taking home the money.
