Man charged after driving with girlfriend partially out of vehicle: CKPS

Chatham-Kent police say they have charged a 27-year-old man after he was driving with his girlfriend partially out of the vehicle during an argument.
On Wednesday at 8:50 p.m., individuals approached police to report an incident. They reported that at 7:45 p.m., at a Sheldon Avenue residence, a man engaged in a verbal argument with his romantic partner.
Police say witnesses saw the man driving in reverse with the girlfriend partially inside the vehicle and the door open.
As the situation escalated, police say the witness attempted to intervene by standing in front of the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle making contact with them. The man continued to drive forward, with the girlfriend still not fully inside the vehicle.
Police later met with the man and his girlfriend at a residence in the south end of Chatham.
Officers say the 27-year-old Chatham man admitted to being an unlicensed driver and acknowledged operating the vehicle during the incident.
He was subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with two counts of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
He was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date of July 21, 2025.
