Chauncey Wiggins, Clemson basketball star forward, enters transfer portal
CLEMSON — Clemson basketball forward Chauncey Wiggins entered the transfer portal Monday after spending three seasons with the Tigers. Wiggins averaged 8.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in his junior year last season over 23.6 minutes in 34 games. His 6-foot-10 size allowed him to be a matchup nightmare against smaller players and has the range to be a consistent 3-point shooter. He averaged over 43% shooting in each season with Clemson. Wiggins was a starter for Clemson in his past two seasons but was benched in favor of other players (forward Jack Clark in 2023-24; guard Dillon Hunter in 2024-25) in the final regular-season games in both seasons. When Hunter suffered a broken right hand against SMU in this year's ACC tournament, Wiggins returned to the starting lineup in Clemson's final two games. However, Wiggins' production dipped, averaging 8.5 points but shooting 30%, including 27.3% from 3-point range, over both contests. With guard Chase Hunter, forward Ian Schieffelin and center Viktor Lakhin not returning next season because of expiring eligibility, Wiggins was expected to have a larger role with Clemson in his final season. Wiggins is the third Tiger player to enter the portal this offseason, joining guard Del Jones and forward Asa Thomas. The portal opened Monday and will close on April 22 for transfers with one exception: Players whose coach leaves the school will have an additional 30 days to enter the portal, beginning the day after the coach's departure. There is no deadline for portal players to commit to a new program. Clemson fell short in the ACC Tournament against Louisville, NCAA Tournament up next
Clemson fell short in the ACC Tournament against Louisville, NCAA Tournament up next Clemson's late rally wasn't enough to overcome Louisville, as the Tigers fell 76-73 in the ACC Tournament Semifinals on Friday night. Despite trailing by 15 points with just over three minutes remaining, Clemson fought back to give itself a chance in the final moments before ultimately coming up short at the Spectrum Center. Down 69-54 with 3:28 left, the Tigers forced six turnovers and used a full-court press to storm back. Chauncey Wiggins knocked down a jumper to start the rally, and Chase Hunter took over from there. His driving layup with 54 seconds left cut the deficit to just two points, setting up a dramatic finish. Clemson forced a shot clock violation on Louisville's next possession, giving the Tigers a chance to tie or take the lead, but Hunter's final drive to the basket didn't draw a whistle, leaving Clemson's comeback incomplete. Hunter led the way with 23 points, while Viktor Lakhin added 14 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Ian Schieffelin recorded his 12th double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Jaeden Zackery contributed 11 points. Louisville was led by Terrence Edwards' 21 points, while J'Vonne Handley added 20. Chucky Hepburn chipped in 12 points, and Noah Waterman scored 10 for the Cardinals, who will face Duke in the ACC Championship Game. Clemson now turns its attention to the NCAA Tournament, awaiting its seeding and matchup in Sunday's Selection Show.
