Youths urged to join SRS to boost KRT security and foster unity
ARAU: Youths have been urged to join the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS) initiative, which plays a key role in enhancing security within Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRTs) and fostering a spirit of unity in the community from a young age. Director-general of the Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN), Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud, said that youths' involvement in the SRS could help develop a sense of responsibility and concern for security in their respective residential areas. 'We strongly encourage youth involvement in SRS so they not only care about the security of their residential areas but also foster a spirit of unity and volunteerism from a young age. SRS is open to individuals aged 18 and above, and the government provides annual protection contributions for members,' he said. He said this to reporters after officiating the Jom Ronda SRS Bersepadu and the state-level 1 Family 1 SRS Member 2025 campaign here last night. Che Roslan added that there are currently 5,431 SRS teams involving 8,529 KRTs with a total of 108,620 members nationwide. In Perlis alone, 142 KRTs have been established, with 97 active SRS teams recorded. 'JPNIN is also implementing 'Meremajakan SRS', a rejuvenation initiative that introduces the MySRS application to facilitate patrol reporting and security case monitoring, along with upgrading SRS team equipment such as safety jackets and tactical flashlights,' he said. Additionally, the 1 Family 1 SRS Member campaign, especially in the border of four states of Kelantan, Perlis, Kedah, and Perak, is being actively strengthened to enhance community security. He emphasised that SRS is not just an ordinary patrol but symbolises the spirit of safeguarding the area against crime and social disharmony.

Utilise social media to expand products' reach, KRTs encouraged

KAPIT (May 6): Members of the Neighbourhood Committee (KRT) are encouraged to use social media market their products and services, especially handicrafts and agro-based products. In giving this advice, Department of National Unity and Integration (JPNIN) director-general Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud calls upon them to make full use of platforms such as Facebook and TikTok to expand their market reach. 'Instead of the conventional way of displaying products at the stall or a shop, use social media to reach out to potential customers from near and far. 'Social media can help communities to market their products more widely, without requiring high extra costs,' he said in his speech for the 'Santuni Madani' and 'Progressive RT' programme at KRT Sungai Banyau in Baleh last weekend. Earlier, Che Roslan said KRT Sungai Banyau received a grant of RM123,000 last year, and had since been actively carrying out various projects meant to benefit the community. 'Among the ongoing projects are the handicraft 'manik' (beads) works by the KRT womenfolk, and also the setting-up of a 'pondok' (patrol booth) for the Voluntary Patrol Scheme (SRS), made as the centre of operations, where the volunteers gather before conducting patrol around their neighbourhood at night. On a relevant matter, he also called upon all KRTs in the country to join in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of KRT by conducting various community programmes that could strengthen the spirit of unity and togetherness amongst the local community. Over 2,000 Tabika Perpaduan students affected by stunting
TUMPAT: The National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) has reported that 2,427 Tabika Perpaduan (kindergarten) students are affected by stunting, with 72 children from Taska Perpaduan (nursery) also impacted. Its director-general, Datuk Che Roslan Che Daud, said initiatives to combat this include an awareness programme and providing nutritious meals at both Tabika and Taska Perpaduan, which have been approved by the state health departments and creatively prepared by educators to engage children. Speaking at the launch of the 2025 National Unity Healthy Menu Programme at the Tumpat Unity Activity Centre today, Che Roslan emphasised the role of early nutrition in shaping children's long-term health. 'Healthy eating habits instilled from a young age will shape their diet and health as adults,' he noted. He stated that the healthy menu programme aims to raise awareness about the importance of healthy eating for children, with a focus on engaging parents, teachers and local communities. Che Roslan emphasised that parents must play a key role in ensuring the programme's success. He added that stunting poses a long-term challenge, affecting children's academic performance, employability and even the nation's economic strength.
