Ex-Teammate Narrates Dhoni's Hillarious Jibe: 'So Many Girlfriends In Those Days...'

Last Updated: S Sreesanth shared a humorous story about MS Dhoni, recalling Dhoni joking about girlfriends at each venue and praising Dhoni's belief in his potential. Former India pacer S Sreesanth recently recounted a lighthearted story about the legendary wicketkeeper-batter Mahendra Singh Dhoni from their playing days, showcasing the camaraderie and humour within the Indian cricket team. Sreesanth recalled an incident where Dhoni humorously shouted at him during a match. According to Sreesanth, Dhoni often joked that he would seek a girlfriend at each venue they played. 'There were so many girlfriends in those days that he thought I would catch a girlfriend from every ground," Sreesanth was quoted as saying on Padamjeet Sehrawat's YouTube channel. Beyond the jokes, Sreesanth also reflected on Dhoni's belief in his abilities. He remembered Dhoni once telling him that he had the potential to achieve great success in his career, but admitted he didn't fully realise his own capabilities back then. 'The one captain, the one friend who made me understand that my potential could have taken me high, but you could not understand your own potential," Sreesanth said, acknowledging Dhoni's mentorship. Sreesanth, a key part of India's T20 World Cup 2007 and ODI World Cup 2011 wins under Dhoni, also revisited one of his most iconic on-field moments — his fiery celebration after dismissing Matthew Hayden in the T20 World Cup 2007 semi-final against Australia. With Australia chasing 189, Sreesanth clean bowled the dangerous opener, sending his stump cartwheeling. He then slapped the pitch three times, mimicking a wrestling referee counting down a pinfall. 'Many people do not know why I did that celebration. Matthew Hayden was a big guy, and I had clean bowled him. That is why that celebration was straight out of wrestling, where the referee hits the floor thrice before declaring you out," Sreesanth explained on JioHotstar's 'Cheeky Singles'. How Only Dhoni Could Control Sreesanth? Former India teammate Robin Uthappa also recalled how Dhoni was one of the few who could truly manage Sreesanth's fiery personality. In a match against Australia in Hyderabad, Sreesanth theatrically appealed for a run-out at the non-striker's end. Dhoni immediately rushed down the pitch, pulled him away, and said, 'It was just after the World Cup, and we were playing Australia in Hyderabad. And I think it was either Andrew Symonds who had backed up. And then Sree (Sreesanth) stopped, took the stumps off and goes 'How is that? How is that?' So MS came running from there, pulled him and said 'just go bowl bro'," Uthappa was quoted as saying on the YouTube show 'Wake Up With Sorabh'. 'Someone who actually handled him really well was MS," Uthappa added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'He's Not Studying...': When India Star Was Mistaken For Arjun Tendulkar And Sachin Played Along

Last Updated: Sachin Tendulkar once tricked an air hostess into thinking Suresh Raina was his son, Arjun, during a flight before a Test match. Sachin Tendulkar, arguably one of the greatest cricketers in history, was not only a genius with the bat but also a master of light-hearted mischief. Many of his teammates, particularly those who debuted in the early 2000s, have fondly recalled his playful side. From Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh to Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag, nearly every player experienced Tendulkar's pranks. According to Suresh Raina, however, none of those moments compares to a hilarious incident he had with the batting legend. Raina and Tendulkar shared the Indian dressing room from 2006 until Tendulkar's retirement in 2013. They were part of memorable triumphs and heartbreaking defeats, but one particular episode on a flight remains etched in Raina's memory. 'We were once going to play a Test match when I was about 18 years old, and I was sitting in business class next to Sachin paaji. The air hostess came over and said, 'Good morning, Sachin sir. How are you?' and assuming I was Arjun Tendulkar, she said something to him about me in passing; Sachin paaji saw a chance to have some fun. He replied, 'Yes, he's not studying at all, what to do? I've even told Anjali (Tendulkar)'," Raina was quoted as saying on 'Cheeky Singles'. When Did This Happen? The incident likely took place after July 2010, when Raina made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Colombo, scoring a century in his first match. Raina recalled that Sachin only clarified the misunderstanding after they had a hearty laugh and shared the joke with the rest of the team. top videos View All 'Later, we went to the section where the other players were sitting, and I blurted, 'Why are you making me sit in business class? You've made me Arjun Tendulkar!' (Sachin) paaji eventually clarified it to air hostess saying, 'He's a part of the Indian cricket team, he is Suresh Raina, not my son'. Paaji loved playing such big pranks sometimes." Raina recalled. Interestingly, the pair also shared a famous 256-run partnership in that debut Test. Tendulkar scored 203, while Raina made 120, helping India post a massive 707 in the first innings. About the Author Ritayan Basu First Published:

"Before A Match, I Would Automatically...": Pragyan Ojha Shares Cricketing Superstition

Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha shared his long-standing superstition. He mentioned that he always called his family before a match, but a missed call due to poor network in Sri Lanka led to him becoming Muttiah Muralitharan's 800th wicket. Ojha last played an international game in 2013, which was also the retirement match for Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar at the Wankhede Stadium. In the game, he managed to take ten wickets and was awarded the Player of the Match. Speaking on 'Cheeky Singles', Pragyan Ojha said, "Whenever I used to get in the team bus before a match, I would automatically call my mom, then my dad. Even if both of them were sitting together, I'd call them separately. Then I'd call my uncle, who was a cricketer and the one who inspired me to take up the game. Even if I had called my uncle 10 minutes before the match, he would have picked up. But in Sri Lanka, at that time, there was no network, and the call didn't go through. Because of that, I became Muttiah Muralitharan's 800th wicket." The 33-year-old Ojha had made his international debut in 2008 against Bangladesh in Karachi. A year later, he went on to make his Test debut against Sri Lanka . The spinner went on to play 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and six T20Is for India and finished with a total of 144 wickets in the international game. In the longest format of the game, he managed to take 113 wickets, with the best bowling figures of 6-47. He was last seen in action in 2018 as he played a first-class match in Dehradun. He also made a name for himself in the Indian Premier League as he played for the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. He was a key member of the Deccan Chargers IPL-winning team in 2009. He last played a match in the premier tournament in 2015 for the Mumbai Indians.

"Sachin Tendulkar Should Play Little Faster": Ex-India Star Reveals Intriguing Chat With Rahul Dravid

RP Singh has been part of several big campaigns for the Indian cricket teams. The left-arm pacer played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is at a time when Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid were still active cricketers. RP has seen the two cricketers up close and recently narrated an interesting incident on the two. "There was a Ranji Trophy match going on in Meerut, Karnataka vs Uttar Pradesh. Rahul Dravid bhai had come to play and scored 199 runs. That night, we went to dinner at someone's house. India's match was going on that day, and Sachin paaji was batting. He was playing a run-a-ball innings. We were both sitting on the side, and people were saying, 'Sachin should play a little faster.' But he was playing according to the situation of the match. Rahul bhai whispered in my ear, 'If they are saying so much to him, then how much would they have said to me?'" RP Singh said on JioHotstar special 'Cheeky Singles'. Rudra Pratap Singh also recalled the moment when a fan tossed a cake towards him and asked him to cut it during India's victory parade in Mumbai after the fabled T20 World Cup title victory in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. More than seventeen years ago, India etched their names in the history books by lifting the inaugural T20 World Cup title in front of a jam-packed crowd at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Under Mumbai's gloomy sky, India held an open bus victory parade, and fans turned up in numbers to welcome the crowned champions. The 39-year-old shared a less-heard story that took place during the moment of jubilation. "We won the T20 World Cup in South Africa, celebrated there, and then landed in Dubai, where a few people congratulated us for lifting the trophy. When we finally landed in Mumbai, we thought we had achieved something special, but the celebration parade was beyond anything I had imagined," RP Singh said in the latest episode of "The roads were closed, and people were throwing things, chocolates, and even a small cake that someone tossed towards me saying, 'Please hold it and cut it.' I told them, 'Don't do this, it might fall.' It was raining, yet the crowds' energy was electric, with people celebrating wildly alongside us," he added. In the final, it was India's arch-rival, Pakistan, who stood as the final hurdle between MS Dhoni 's side and the coveted title. In a nerve-wracking thriller, a collective effort from the players got India across the line, crowning them as the first team to clinch the title. He played a pivotal role in steering India to the famed title. Rudra Pratap spearheaded India's lethal pace attack and concluded the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps. He announced his international retirement in 2018 after making 82 appearances for India across all formats and scythed 124 wickets.

"I've Been Mistaken For Rohit Sharma, George Clooney": Ex-India Star's Big Revelation

In a lighthearted conversation, former India pacer Rudra Pratap Singh, who was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning side, revealed he has been mistaken for other well-known personalities, including India ODI captain Rohit Sharma. The 39-year-old, who represented India in 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is, made the revelation while speaking on JioHotstar special 'Cheeky Singles'. Singh also recalled that a fan once likened him to Hollywood actor George Clooney, sparking a laughing riot in the studio. "I've been mistaken for Rohit Sharma on several occasions, not just once, but many times. And it doesn't stop there. Someone even called me 'George Clooney' once on social media. I told them, 'Now that's too much!'," recalled Singh. Singh took 12 wickets in seven games, as MS Dhoni -led India won the first-ever T20 World Cup in South Africa in September 2007. "We won the T20 World Cup in South Africa, celebrated there, and then landed in Dubai, where a few people congratulated us for lifting the trophy. When we finally landed in Mumbai, we thought we had achieved something special, but the celebration parade was beyond anything I had imagined." I told them, 'Don't do this, it might fall.' It was raining, yet the crowds' energy was electric, with people celebrating wildly alongside us," he added. He also recounted a memorable moment from a Ranji Trophy match between Karnataka and his state team Uttar Pradesh in Meerut, involving the legendary Rahul Dravid.
