Bayt Mal Al Quds, Palestine Partner to Help Gaza's Orphaned, Amputee Children
Rabat – The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency and the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development signed an agreement on Monday to support orphaned and amputee children affected by the Israeli war on Gaza. Under this agreement, the two parties will work together on social projects to help children who lost limbs due to the war. The goal is to help them live a normal life and provide them with psychological support through the agency's mental health clinic. The agreement also includes programs to support orphaned children registered with the ministry as part of the Al-Quds Orphan Sponsorship Project. The genocidal war on Gaza has caused immense devastation and claimed the lives of tens of thousands of civilians. According to Gaza's health ministry, more than 38,000 children have been orphaned since the war started in October 2023. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs revealed that Gaza is home to the largest number of amputee children in modern history. The agreement was signed in Ramallah by Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, the director in charge of managing the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, and Palestinian Minister of Social Development Samah Hamad. Morocco's Ambassador to Palestine, Abdel Rahim Meziane, attended the ceremony. During the ceremony, Hamad said the agreement intends to support vulnerable child victims of the devastating war. She thanked the agency for its humanitarian efforts in supporting the people of Al Quds (Jerusalem) and other victims of the war. Meanwhile, Cherkaoui noted that the agreement is part of Morocco's efforts to help Palestinians in Gaza recover from the war's impact, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. The initiative is funded by Morocco's Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, with a grant of $200,000, he said. Cherkaoui added that the agreement defines how the agency will care for orphaned children in Al Quds, a project that has been running since 2008. It also covers psychological support for those in need through an online mental health clinic. Partner centers in Jerusalem and Gaza will provide in-person support for affected children, he added. Bayt Mal Al-Qods Acharif Agency launches Chair of Moroccan Studies at Al-Qods University
On Sunday, the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Acharif Agency launched the Chair of Moroccan Studies at Al-Qods University in the Holy City, a new academic specialty designed to promote academic exchanges and the influence of Moroccan culture and civilization in Palestine. The launch ceremony was attended by the Director of the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Acharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, the President of Al-Qods University, Hanna Abdennour, the Chair's President, Safae Nasser Eddine, and a number of researchers and students. The Chair's studies will focus on analyzing the social ties and solidarity uniting Morocco and Palestine, within the context of a space that illustrates their historical, human, cultural, and civilizational relations. Speaking on this occasion, Abdennour stressed that the creation of the Chair will contribute to consolidating the cultural, social, political, and spiritual ties uniting the Moroccan and Palestinian peoples, which have enabled Moroccans to maintain very close relations with the Maqdessi social fabric. The aim of this initiative is not only to strengthen the various aspects of cultural exchanges between the academic communities of the two countries but also to revitalize the age-old historical ties that have always united them. Additionally, it seeks to enrich and promote the Moroccan cultural presence in Al-Qods through high-quality research and studies, he affirmed. The President of Al-Qods University expressed his gratitude to the Bayt Mal Al-Qods Acharif Agency for its praiseworthy efforts to preserve the memory of the Palestinians and support the Maqdessi through qualitative initiatives and programs in various fields. For his part, Cherkaoui indicated that the Agency's launch marked a further step toward strengthening the attachment of Moroccans to Al-Qods. He noted that this academic field would contribute to consolidating a multidimensional Moroccan presence in the Holy City and in Palestine through scientific and academic research. In this regard, Cherkaoui called on the administration of the Chair of Moroccan Studies to take advantage of this opportunity to achieve its expected objectives and implement its annual action plan. He also encouraged them to work for positive and constructive collaboration with the annual action plan of the Moroccan Cultural Center (Bayt Al Maghrib). He announced that the Moroccan Cultural Centre will host the headquarters of the Chair's administration, pending the completion of the premises dedicated to it on the university campus.

Morocco foils attacks by cell loyal to Islamic State
By Ahmed Eljechtimi RABAT (Reuters) - Morocco's counterterrorism agency said on Monday it had foiled attacks against national and international targets in the country by a 12-member cell loyal to Islamic State in the Sahel. The operation underscores the threat emanating from jihadist militancy in the Sahel, as groups linked to Islamic State and al Qaeda expand activity in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. The suspects, arrested in nine different cities, had been receiving orders from a Libyan leader of Islamic State, the head of Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations, Habboub Cherkaoui, told reporters. The suspects, aged 18 to 40, have been radicalised online, Cherkaoui said, adding that most of them had "occasional jobs". The group, which branded itself "the Lions of the Caliphate in the Maghreb Al Aqsa (Morocco)", was planning remotely controlled bomb attacks, he said. Explosive devices and chemical substances were found during the operation, in addition to a weapons cache including automatic firearms and handguns, in the south-eastern region of Errachidia near the Algerian borders, Cherkaoui said. The seized weapons and ammunition had been supplied by the IS leader via smugglers, he said. The operation "confirms that the African branches of IS tend to internationalise their activities", Cherkaoui said, adding that the nexus between "terrorist groups and criminal networks is a real threat" to Morocco and Europe. In recent years, IS branches in Africa have recruited more than 130 Moroccan fighters, Cherkaoui said. Since its establishment in 2015, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations has dismantled dozens of militant cells and arrested more than 1,000 suspected jihadists. The last jihadist attack in the country was in 2023, when three individuals loyal to IS killed a Moroccan policeman in Casablanca.
