Festival fans 'disappointed' as Professor Green cancels headline show in sudden 'unforeseen circumstances'
Fans say they were left disappointed after rapper Professor Green cancelled a festival show 'last minute'. Advertised as the north's biggest sports and music festival, Chester 7s was due to welcome Professor Green to the stage as its headline act last night (June 28). The rapper had made a special guest appearance on stage at the Glastonbury festival with artist Native James during its second day on June 26. Professor Green's top hits came in the 2010s, including 'I Need You Tonight', 'Just Be Good to Green' featuring Lily Allen, and 'Read All About It', with Emeli Sande. But last night, at around 10.30pm, an announcement was made on the social media pages of Chester 7s saying: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Professor Green is unable to perform at Chester 7s tonight. "While circumstances such as these are outside of our control, we apologise to all our amazing players, officials and guests, and thank you for making Chester 7s 2025 an amazing experience for everyone." Professor Green had been due to take to the stage for the main stage headline slot at 9pm, according to a set times list shared by the festival. The festival organisers did not share the reason for the unexpected cancellation of the headline act. The cancellation drew critics, with one peeved fan telling the festival on social media: "Although out of your control, not good enough when people have bought tickets. Had a fab weekend but definitely disappointed with Professor Green." Another ticket holder commented: "I was really gutted as I upgraded my Friday tickets to see Prof Green but the other DJs were good, and Ben Singh was a proper vibe, his set should [have] stayed on longer." Festival-goers shared how DJs including Ben Singh and Gary Williams closed out the night instead, 'saving the day'. One fan wrote in response to the festival's announcement: "Big love to all the DJs who stepped in for Pro Green — he missed an incredible night with amazing people and energy! "Rachel T was pure class, Fatty Funk and Ben Singh brought the vibe, after jumping in to keep things flowing. "Huge respect to DJ Willz Gary Williams who closed the night with an extended set — absolutely smashed it and had the whole place bouncing. "Thanks for an epic weekend, Chester 7s — see you next year!" Ahead of the booked show, the festival's website advertised how Professor Green 'acquired a reputation as one of the most exciting names in hip hop, grime and electronica. Before long, he was a major name and a fixture of popular culture'. As well as fronting sports brand Puma at the height of his fame, Professor Green was also well-known for his mental health charity activism. Professor Green's team has been contacted for comment.

Fortunately, the night wasn't short on good vibes, as English former rugby union player James Haskell did turn up to deliver a two-hour DJ slot beforehand. The 40-year-old athlete and I'm A Celeb star plays house music and produces his own tunes, having taken his sets all over the world to the likes of London, Dubai, and Ibiza. As for Professor Green, whose real name is Stephen Manderson, he is yet to comment publicly on pulling out of the gig with just moments to spare. However, it left a sour taste in the mouths of many, who admitted they felt let down. Taking to the comments section of his most recent post one day ago, @nicola.b_86 wrote: 'What happened last night?!? You were booked to headline a festival and then just didn't show up? Organisers said at the end of the night you hadn't communicated this to them and just did a no show?' 'Why did you not come to Chester7s?', @tors56 demanded to know. Also making their feeling crystal clear, @kayleigh_x87 commented underneath the announcement: '@professorgreen you massive let down!! 👎 not impressed 😤' Pro Green's cancelled gig comes just a day after he performed at Glastonbury Festival. The Just Be Good to Green musician was brought out as a surprise guest by Native James during his set on the BBC Introducing stage. Following some of his own hits, he introduced Green for a cameo, the UK hip hop veteran popping up for the duo's recent collab, Block. In fact, it is Green's Worthy Farm appearance that made fans suspicious, as @bexwidd commented on Insta after his absence from Chester 7 was confirmed: 'He stayed at Glastonbury! Very poor @professorgreen'. Agreeing, @splash_vw blasted him as 'pathetic', praising Haskell for still showing up despite the recent death of his father. The Glasto set still went down a treat regardless, as fans were keen to comment on how 'iconic' the moment was. In a lengthy caption alongside the shot of his newborn son's head, he also detailed their difficult pregnancy, which he branded 'a rollercoaster' and confessed during 'scare after scare' they feared their baby 'would not make it'.
