HC grants interim bail to co-accused in transport ‘scam'
Bhopal/Jabalpur: The MP high court has granted interim bail to Chetan Singh, a co-accused in the transport "scam", so he can care for his wife and newborn twins. The case involves the seizure of over Rs 100 crore in cash, gold and property from former transport department constable Saurabh Sharma. Singh, who is in jail with Sharma and another accused in the case, in his bail application said he was married in 2012 and his wife was unable to bear a child because of medical problems. His wife was treated twice by IVF technique so that the couple is blessed with a baby. On June 14, his wife gave birth to a twin prematurely following surgery. The babies are in the NICU following birth. He is the only person to take care of the babies and his wife and his physical presence is required in the hospital. He also produced medical documents in support of his arguments. However, the counsel for the state government appearing in the case opposed the bail. The bench of justice Pramod Agarwal, while giving interim bail to Singh, said his wife and babies need his presence to take care of them, therefore he was granted an interim bail on humanitarian grounds till Aug 27. He will be required to surrender in Bhopal district court on Aug 28 and if he fails to do so, the court will be at liberty to order his arrest. Last Updated: A Mangaluru man posted an offensive post on Pahalgam terror attack and later took it down after a massive outrage online. The police have registered a case against him. A social media post by a Mangaluru man has sparked widespread outrage online after he compared the recent terrorist attack in J&K's Pahalgam with the 2023 Palghar Railway Station shooting. In the controversial post, the man, using the account name 'Nichchu Mangaluru,' claimed that the Pahalgam terror attack could have been avoided if Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh had been hanged publicly last year. Singh had shot three individuals at Palghar Railway Station after allegedly asking if they were Muslims. The post further said that a public execution of Chetan Singh would have prevented such a terror attack, drawing direct parallels between the two killings. The statement drew backlash online, and the post was later deleted. Konaje Police in Mangaluru have registered an FIR against the accused under charges of giving provocation with intent to cause riots and making statements conducive to public mischief. The authorities are currently searching for the person behind the post. First Published:
