Deadly head-on crash on Highway 99 kills 21-year-old Elk Grove man, several injured
( — An Elk Grove man is dead and several others are injured after a head-on crash on Highway 99 Monday morning. Around 2:12 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a car crash on Highway 99, south of Hammatt Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they determined it to be a three-vehicle head-on crash with one fatality. Crews recover submerged vehicle from Solano County boat launch CHP said a 21-year-old Elk Grove man was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Malibu sedan wrong-way northbound when he collided with a 41-year-old San Bernardino man who was driving a 2020 Toyota Camry sedan in the southbound lane at about 65 miles per hour. For unknown reasons, police said the drivers did not see each other until impact. The front of the Chevrolet collided with the right front of the Toyota. That impact caused the Chevrolet to veer to the left in the direction of a big rig that was traveling in a third lane, southbound. Murder investigation underway in Sacramento after assault victim dies The 26-year-old big rig driver was not able to safely stop the big rig to avoid the crash and the Chevrolet hit the truck's trailer, according to CHP. The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. All four occupants of the Chevrolet, ranging from 19 to 21 years of age, were transported to local hospitals for moderate to major injuries. CHP said the big rig driver and Toyota driver did not sustain any injuries and were not transported by medical personnel. Both drivers remained at the scene and were cooperative with the investigating officers. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The Malibu, a rental reported stolen, then careens into an empty NYPD van, the chilling footage shows. The suspected driver of the car, Autumn Donna Ascencio Romero, 23, and her alleged passenger, 22-year-old Kennedy LaCraft, fled the scene but were picked up by cops nearby. 2 killed in New York City's Chinatown after out-of-control stolen car slams into pavement
Two people were killed when a stolen out-of-control rental car vaulted onto a bustling Chinatown pedestrian island in New York City on Saturday morning, police said. One of the victims' legs was severed during the blistering 7.30am crash at the corner of Bowery and Canal Street at the mouth of the Manhattan Bridge, police said. One victim, a 63-year-old woman, was sitting on a metal bench before the car careered into her, witnesses said. The metal bench was ripped from the ground as the Chevrolet Malibu slammed into it. The driver and passenger of the blue Malibu – two women in their early 20s – were taken into custody after they tried to leave the area on foot after the crash, police said. A witness pointed them out to arriving police officers as they made their escape. Officers caught them about a block away from the scene, officials said. The two women were taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries as they were being questioned. Witnesses told police that the Malibu had exited the Manhattan Bridge at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and careered onto a triangle-shaped pedestrian island at the corner, where it struck a 63-year-old woman sitting on the bench and a man in his 30s riding a bicycle.

The driver of an allegedly stolen car sped across the the Manhattan Bridge and lost control, striking and killing two people before careening into an NYPD van Saturday morning, police said. The grisly scene unfolded just before 7:30 a.m., when a blue Chevrolet Malibu traveled west across the bridge and plowed into a man on a bicycle and the 63-year-old woman sitting on a bench on the corner of Bowery and Canal Street, police said. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver — who had turned 23 Friday — and her female passenger, 22, apparently tried to flee and were taken into custody about a block from the scene, sources said.
