Candlelit vigil to be held for woman who disappeared 17 years ago
TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The family of a Killawog woman who disappeared 17 years ago is asking the public to keep her memory alive. Family members of Bethanie Dougherty joined the Broome County Sheriff's Office on Monday to invite the community to a candlelight vigil in honor of the missing wife and mother of three. Dougherty was last seen by her family on April 1, 2008, at around 10 p.m. at her home on Jennings Creek Road in Killawog. Her family reported her missing the following day when she could not be located. However, her car keys, cell phone, and purse were all found still in her home. In the early morning hours of April 2, 2008, before Dougherty was reported missing, New York State Police responded to the area of Jennings Creek Road in Killawog due to residents reporting hearing someone possibly screaming in the area. The area was checked, and nothing was located. According to the Sheriff's Office, a vehicle described as a mid-to-late 1990s Chevy S-10 style pick-up truck was reported in the area at the time of Dougherty's disappearance. The candlelit vigil will be held on April 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Killawog Fire Department at 602 Jennings Creek Rd in Killawog. 'Bethanie was a loving mother of three, and we want to make sure she is never forgotten,' said John Curtis, Bethanie's brother. 'We're asking the community to join us for this vigil and ask anyone with information that helps us find Bethanie to please come forward.' The investigation has been ongoing for 17 years. Dougherty's family is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to her return or recovery. South Carolina woman killed in crash that leaves two others hospitalized, coroner says
A South Carolina woman was killed Saturday night in a crash in the Upstate region, according to the Oconee County Coroner's Office. Jennifer Renee Roberts, a 46-year-old Fair Play resident, died in what Coroner Karl Addis called an accident. The two-vehicle collision happened at about 9:50 p.m., said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Roberts was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier east on Earles Grove Road, according to Glover. At an intersection, the Cavalier collided with a 1999 Chevy S-10 pickup truck that was driving south on S.C. 59, Glover said. Roberts suffered blunt force injuries and died at the scene, according to Addis. A passenger in the Cavalier and the S-10 driver, who was the only person in the pickup, were hurt and taken to an area hospital, Glover said. Further information on the surviving victims' conditions was not available. No other injuries were reported. Addis said Roberts was not wearing a seat belt. There was no word if either the Cavalier passenger or the S-10 driver were wearing seat belts. Information about what led to the wreck was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol. Through March 2, at least 103 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported. At least one person has died in an Oconee County crash in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 15 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
