When Akshaye Khanna was hopeful to find love but not mentally prepared to get married: ‘I don't know if I can do the adjustments…'

Actor Akshaye Khanna, son of veteran star Vinod Khanna, recently made headlines when he revealed he doesn't want to get married at all. During the promotion of his recent film Chhavaa, Akshaye Khanna shared how he thinks he is not 'marriage material' and wants full control over his life. However, there was a time when the actor was hopeful to find the right girl and be married to her. In an old interview, the Dil Chahta Hai star had spoken in length about his marriage plans and the kind of girl he is looking for to settle down with. Speaking to Anuradha Prasad, the actor complained how it is not him who is avoiding marriage but he is unable to find the right partner. He said, 'Life partner milna toh chahiye. You need to find the right girl for yourself before deciding to get married. It is wrong to marry for the sake of it, thinking family is putting pressure on you and you did it. That's wrong.' Akshaye Khanna said that he doesn't have any specific criteria for the girl of his dreams as he believes in falling in love with the totality of the person than just a single trait. 'I don't have anything specific that I need in my partner. When you fall in love, you fall in love with the totality of the person. It can't be one reason. I have never received this feeling from anyone who would make me want to spend the rest of my life with her. It has not happened yet.' However, the actor seemed hopeful to find his lady love. 'I am hoping it will happen one day,' said the actor. He shared, 'I don't think I am mentally prepared for it. Neither do I know if I can do the adjustment. But, I guess when a person falls in love, they can do it. I will never settle for an arranged marriage. It has to be love. I will be able to do all the compromises that people usually do in a marriage is only when I am madly in love with that person. Otherwise, it won't be possible at all.' Recently, when talking to Hindustan Times, Akshaye seemed like he has dropped the idea of getting married at all. The 50-year-old actor shared, 'I don't see myself getting married. I am not marriage material. I am not cut out for that kind of life. It is a commitment, but a drastic lifestyle change. Marriage changes everything. I want full control over my life. When you share you life with somebody else, you can't have full control. You have to give a lot of control away. You share each other's lives.' He added, 'I am not willing to give up. I don't think even in the future I will be willing to do that.' Akshaye Khanna was once reported to be dating Karisma Kapoor. The couple were also set to get married when Karisma's mother Babita expressed her disagreement as she wanted her daughter to focus on her career. She allegedly didn't approve of Akshaye Khanna's career graph, ending their relationship.
