Inside Scots DJ Calvin Harris' big life changes from fatherhood to copyright row

Inside Scots DJ Calvin Harris' big life changes from fatherhood to copyright row Calvin Harris has been in the eye of the storm recently over his new track Blessings, which has been compared to Chicane's hit Offshore, leading to TikTok debate. Calvin Harris and Vick Hope are to become parents (Image: Jed Cullen/Dave Benett/Getty Ima ) Calvin Harris has been making headlines once more, although not necessarily for the right reasons. The Scottish DJ has found himself viral on TikTok following the release of his new hit track, Blessings. The Dumfries-born DJ has been enjoying chart success lately with his new track, which has appeared to divide opinion in a furious rant with DJ Chicane over claims he 'copied' the star's iconic hit, Offshore. The argument has recently taken TikTok by storm. ‌ The 41-year-old is soon to become a dad alongside wife Vick Hope, after she announced her pregnancy earlier in May, he continues his chart-topping success despite certain backlash. But what actually happened and where did his career all begin? ‌ Early career Calvin, real name Adam Richard Wiles, has had quite the career blow-up since discovering his passion for music in high school at the age of just 15. The Scottish DJ, born in Dumfries, went from uploading his tracks on Myspace to becoming one of the most famous and well paid DJs on the planet with a stream of number one hits. After an unsuccessful stint in London, he returned to Dumfries and developed solo recordings at home and posted them on his 'Myspace' page before being signed to a record label in 2006. His first studio album 'I Created Disco', released in 2007, debuted at no.8 on the UK Albums Chart with hit singles Acceptable In The 80s and The Girls. Just two years later, the DJ released his second studio album which debuted at no.1 on the UK Albums Chart and received gold certification later that year. ‌ It was after this album that he moved away from singing, and focussed on his role as a producer and allowing other vocalists to take the lead on his tracks. Calvin's success just kept getting bigger and better, as his collaboration with Rihanna on We Found Love for his third album was his first single to reach no.1 in the US - fully launching his career to superstardom. As reported on WealthyGorilla, Calvin Harris is the richest DJ in the world with a net worth of £300million. ‌ 'Copyright' song drama Chicane, real name Nicholas Bracegirdle, claimed that Calvin's new single copies his 1996 classic Offshore, which spent eight weeks in the charts. He shared a two-minute video on TikTok showing how a riff in Offshore cut and looped sounded the same as Blessings. He began by stating: "I'm Nick Chicane and welcome to the video that I thought I would never have to make. This is my right to reply to all the comments online about the new Calvin Harris single Blessings' similarity to my 30-year old Offshore." He played the two singles on his music editing software before stating: "It's really hard to decipher when one comes in and one goes, that is because they are almost identical. I am defending my copyright and intellectual property here guys - I'd like to know what your comments are here guys." ‌ It was Calvin's response however that had Scottish fans in hysterics. He filmed an eight-minute video insisting he hadn't copied the track, of him playing the two singles. He laughed and branded Nick 'stupid' as he insisted: "it's not the same, it's not the f***ing same." People were quick to hilariously compare his rant to that in Trainspotting. He captioned the post: "Response to the people calling me a plagiarist over the last couple of days after that guys video, all the best." ‌ Calvin then claimed in the comments that Chicane had actually used a sample in his song, writing: "If you make it to the end you're rewarded with the track HE ripped off originally for his song." Becoming a dad Elsewhere in his personal life, Calvin is set to become a dad alongside wife Vick Hope. The pair first met back in 2022, and later tied the knot in an outdoor carnival-themed ceremony the following year. Vick and Calvin's baby is set to have an interesting start to life with the pair owning several homes, including a farm in Ibiza and a 10-acre estate in the Cotswolds. The couple announced they were set to become parents earlier this month. ‌ The pair are reported to be in the process of building a mansion on their Cotswolds estate, which is reported to become their main place of residence. BBC Radio host Vick stressed on air that she didn't want to make a big deal out of her pregnancy. She said: "This is not an announcement, by the way. People keep saying are you going to announce, are you going to announce? And I'm like, I'm not the King. Article continues below "I'll be honest, I struggle with anything that's personal or private. I will tell you a story about eating a kebab out of a bin, that's one thing. "But there's a line and so I've never been that big on sharing. Particularly because I've just been enjoying this privately and quietly."

Calvin Harris locked in furious plagiarism row with iconic Nineties DJ as he's accused of having an 'out of control ego that will ruin his career'

Calvin Harris is embroiled in a furious row with DJ Chicane over claims he 'copied' the star's iconic hit, Offshore. The Scottish hitmaker, 41 - who is set to welcome a child with wife Vick Hope - has been enjoying chart success lately with his hit, Blessings. Yet in a shock twist, Chicane - real name Nicholas Bracegirdle - claimed that the new single copies his 1996 classic Offshore, which spent eight weeks in the charts. Taking to TikTok, he released a two-minute video showing how a riff in Offshore cut and looped sounded the same as Blessings. He began by stating: 'I'm Nick Chicane and welcome to the video that I thought I would never have to make.' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Chicane continued: 'This is my right to reply to all the comments online about the new Calvin Harris single Blessings' similarity to my 30-year old Offshore.' He went on to play the two singles on his music editing software before stating: 'It's really hard to decipher when one comes in and one goes, that is because they are almost identical. Chicane continued: 'I am defending my copyright and intellectual property here guys - I'd like to know what your comments are here guys. He said that the video was his ;right to reply' about comments he had received in regards to Calvin's new song sounding like his 30-year hit Offshore. He then showed viewers how a riff in Offshore cut and looped sounded exactly like Blessings. In response, Calvin filmed a video insisting he hadn't copied the track, which prompted a TikTok user to message Chicane, writing: 'Calvin Harris Reply video convinced me even more that he has copied. Chicane is the guy and the disrespect from Calvin is crazy.' Chicane responded: 'The disrespect was off the chart, guy is struggling with an out of control ego…. Kinda sad & hilarious to watch him ruin his career.' Calvin's eight-minute response video showed him playing the two singles in a bid to see which parts sounded the same. At various parts, he laughed and branded Nick 'stupid' as he insisted: 'it's not the same, it's not the f***ing same.' He captioned the post: 'Response to the people calling me a plagiarist over the last couple of days after that guys video, all the best.' Calvin then claimed in the comments that Chicane had actually used a sample in his song, writing: 'If you make it to the end you're rewarded with the track HE ripped off originally for his song.' When asked by a fan if he had sampled Tangerine Dream's Love On A Real Train in Offshore, Chicane responded on TikTok: 'Good question, not in the slightest….' MailOnline has contacted Calvin's representatives for comment. While Calvin has been busy defending himself against plagiarism claims he has also been preparing for fatherhood. His wife Vick, 35, is now on maternity leave but asked the Radio 1 Big Weekend crowd in Liverpool for baby name ideas on the weekend. Glowing Vick looked sensational as she showcased her blossoming bump in a vibrant figure hugging maxi dress with thigh-high split. Chatting with the audience, her co-host Jamie Laing said: 'Vick is about to go on maternity leave, and she wants some help with some baby names, so if you can shout some names to me'. As the huge crowd began screaming out suggestions a giggling Vick replied: 'Ok, I got it'. Vick and Calvin's baby is set to have an interesting start to life with the pair owning several homes, including a farm in Ibiza and a 10-acre estate in the Cotswolds. The couple are reported to be in the process of building a mansion on their Cotswolds estate, which is reported to become their main place of residence. They tied the knot in September 2023 and only just announced their impending arrival, choosing to keep their relationship largely out of the spotlight. Vick stressed on air that she didn't want to make a big deal out of her pregnancy. She said: 'This is not an announcement, by the way. People keep saying are you going to announce, are you going to announce? And I'm like, I'm not the King. 'I'll be honest, I struggle with anything that's personal or private. I will tell you a story about eating a kebab out of a bin, that's one thing. 'But there's a line and so I've never been that big on sharing. Particularly because I've just been enjoying this privately and quietly.'

And it's already being hailed as the new "song of the summer". With over 12 million Spotify streams in just days, the track has proven a massive hit with music fans. But the Dumfries-born star has been slammed by trance legend Nick Chicane, 54, real name Nicholas Bracegirdle, who claims the tune is a rip-off of his iconic 1997 anthem Offshore. The pair have been caught up in a social media spat after Chicane accused Harris of lifting the riff, sound, and arrangement from his Ibiza classic. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, the 90s producer shared a video with his 40,000 followers showing how the two tracks overlap. Chicane said: 'It's really hard to decipher when one comes in and one goes. That is because they are almost identical, which is a bit of a problem. "I am defending my copyright and my intellectual sort of property here, guys.' The post triggered a storm of reactions online, with some fans backing Chicane's claims and others dismissing them as overblown. Responding to one comment, Chicane even compared his original hit to the Mona Lisa, writing: 'If I painted the Mona Lisa last week and gave it a new name, I'm a bit f****d because I can't escape the fact the original Mona Lisa still exists. Calvin Harris's mother in law reveals awkward moment before they first met "This above all else is Calvin Harris's major problem.' But Calvin wasn't having any of it and hit back with a video post of his own in a bid to rubbish the claims. Hitting back in a scathing response, he dismissed the allegations as 'embarrassing' and labelled Chicane 'a stupid b*****d". In a video reply, Calvin mocked the claims while analysing the tracks, with a file named 'Offshore B******t". Laughing, he said: 'Come on to f. C*** thinks he invented a f*****g, what is going on?' He added: 'One – you didn't invent the guitar. Two – it's not the same. It's not the f*****g same.' Chicane later revealed that a copyright investigation into the music is underway. He wrote: 'Given the weight of people independently noticing this has triggered a copyright investigation. I hope this long-winded explanation helps.'

2025 Auto Photo Awards Are Now Live: Will You Be The Next Winner?

Calling all aspiring automotive photographers! The Auto Photo Awards, hosted by British photography organization Shutterhub, is back. Since its inception in 2022, the Auto Photo Awards competition has enabled photographers to reach a wider audience, gain motorsport accreditation, get paid commissions, and get published in magazines such as Chicane, Influx, and Revolution. Last year's awards reached an audience of 1.8 million people around the world. For the 2025 edition, the five categories for entry are "Cars as Art", "Motorsport", "Scenes and Styling", "Innovation", and "Auto Portrait." Over 25 individual awards will be given, including "Winners" and "Highly Commended" in each of the five categories, one winner for each of the Partner Awards, and one winner of the People's Choice Award selected by the Auto Photo community. The top 100 entries, which will include category winners, highly commended images, and partner award selections, will be featured in the Auto Photo book and showcased in a touring exhibition across the UK. The judge roster for the Auto Photo Awards 2025 is as star-studded as we'd hope, featuring Karen Harvey MBE (Founder and Creative Director, Shutter Hub and Auto Photo), Alessia Glaviano (Head of Global PhotoVogue and Director of the Photo Vogue Festival), Charles Gordon-Lennox, Duke of Richmond (Founder, Goodwood Revival and Festival of Speed), Justina Williams (Team Owner, EXCELR8 Motorsport), Mai Ikuzawa (Team Principle, Team Ikuzawa and Creative Director, Bow Wow International), Charlie Roughton (Co-Founder and Director, The Maze Group), Phil McGovern (Founder and Creative Director, Caffeine & Machine), and Hugh Chambers (CEO of Motorsport UK). If you want to shoot your shot at becoming an award-winning automotive photographer or learn more about the competition, head to and submit your work before September 4, 2025, at 5 p.m. GMT. If you need a few pointers on how to make your shots even better, we interviewed Vijay Sankar, one of last year's Auto Photo Awards winners, to help you out. Like I said in my interview with Vijay, it has never been easier to be an automotive photographer. With so much talent in the space, it can be hard to stand out, which is why grassroots competitions like the Auto Photo Awards are so important. Even if you think that your photos aren't award-worthy, I encourage you to submit them. We tend to be too harsh when judging our own work, even when it's actually a masterpiece. Who knows, you might be the next winner.
