Asda giving away up to £6,000 to shoppers who spend £5 in supermarket stores

From Thursday May 1 until June 30, customers who spend £5 in store or online and scan their Asda Rewards app can earn an entry into the competition Asda is giving away £6,000 this month to shoppers who spend £5 in store to celebrate the supermarket's 60th birthday. Asda has introduced a new "Scan to Win" instant price draw for its Asda Rewards app. From Thursday May 1 until June 30, customers who spend £5 in store or online and scan their Asda Rewards app can earn an entry. Once scanned they will then be presented with a "gift" which will either be an instant Cashpot amount or instant win coupon. ‌ The top Cashpot prize available to win is £6,000, followed by other prizes worth £600, £60, £6 and 60p as well as £60, £6 and 60p off coupons. Customers will immediately receive the prize in their Asda Rewards Cashpot and wallet, and shoppers can then choose to convert their Cashpot into vouchers to spend either in an Asda store or online. ‌ The Asda Rewards is an app-based loyalty scheme and the supermarket says it's about "pounds, not points" and the more you shop at Asda the more your cash pot will build. Vouchers can be created from the Cashpot from £1, with the maximum voucher amount at £100. With this competition, shoppers will only be able to enter once per day - but you can enter each day if you find yourself needing to spend in Asda. The competition comes as Asda slashes the price of its popular cafe deal from £1 to just 60p as part of its birthday celebration. The new price will run from May 1 until May 31 and it will be available in over 205 Asda cafés across the UK. Under the deal, families can choose from nine different meals including Penna Pasta with Meatballs, Chicken Nuggets, Fish Fingers and Margherita pizza. In addition, families who purchase the hot kids 60p meal deal will also get a free piece of fruit, such as an apple, pear, or banana. As an alternative to a hot meal, Asda café also offers a £1 cold pick-and-mix selection, including a sandwich, drink, and piece of fruit. The menu includes new additions such as a jelly pot with whole fruit pieces or a jelly squeeze pouch as an alternative to a pack of crisps. ‌ Join Money Saving Club's specialist topics Ian McEvans, vice president of commercial food at Asda said: 'Asda has a rich heritage in supporting families and reducing our already hugely popular Kids Eat for £1 initiative to 60p is the perfect way to highlight that and to kick-start our 60th birthday celebrations. 'We know families face financial pressures when it comes feeding their children, not just during the school holidays, but all year round. We've served over six million meals since we first launched the initiative in 2022, proving what a lifeline it is to families across the UK, so I'm delighted that we can drop the price to 60p this May and hope to reduce some of that pressure even further.'

First launched in 2022, the money-saving initiative was originally only available to help out families during the school holidays. As of 2023, it is available all year round and is said to have provided over six million meals to kids nationwide. It comes just as Asda is about celebrate its 60th birthday after first forming in 1965. First owned by the Asquith Brothers, the supermarket and its name were created when the owners merged with a company called Associated Dairies. Since then, Asda has grown to become one of the UK's "Big Four" supermarket chains, boasting around 1,106 stores across the UK, with at least 89 based in Scotland alone. Ian McEvans, Vice President - Commercial Food at Asda said: "Asda has a rich heritage in supporting families and reducing our already hugely popular Kids Eat for £1 initiative to 60p is the perfect way to highlight that and to kick-start our 60th birthday celebrations. At the time, the supermarket advised that the return of the famed scheme was part of "a significant investment to lower prices across its entire range". It also said it was "the first step to "satisfy the daily and weekly shopping needs of ordinary working people and their families." Asda's Kids Eat for 60p deal will be available across all cafe's nationwide from Thursday, May 1 to Saturday, May 31.
