Fox Sports projects record audience of 126 million for Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles were not the only big winners on Sunday night. Fox Sports announced on Monday evening that its Super Bowl 59 broadcast of Philadelphia's 40-22 rout of Kansas City drew a projected audience of 126 million viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo and NFL digital properties. Advertisement That makes Sunday's game the most-watched Super Bowl of all-time, topping last year's Super Bowl audience of 123.7 million viewers on CBS. It also marks the second consecutive Super Bowl to set a new audience record. Two years ago the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl drew a record 115.1 million viewers on Fox. Yes, these games were boosted by out-of-home viewership but they topped last year's mark which is an apples-to-apples comparison. The average audience has long been used to determine the most-watched game as opposed to the peak audience. Fox executives are expecting the final Nielsen number to be slightly higher than the projection they announced tonight. That will come in on Tuesday. Super Bowl 59 peaked at 135.7 million viewers from 8-8:15 PM ET in the second quarter, per the network. Fox also cited a record audience for streaming viewership as the company announced Tubi alone delivered 13.6 million viewers, while Tubi and NFL digital properties combined for 14.5 million. Many who cover sports media predicted a new record would be set, including The Athletic, but the major surprise here was seeing a record set in a blowout. Generally, televised sporting events see a drop if the margin of victory gets out of hand. An industry source said the game held steady viewership for most of the second half until dropping late in the fourth quarter. The official number for Kendrick Lamar's halftime show will be out on Tuesday. Mike Mulvihill, the Fox Sports head of Insights and Analytics, projected the halftime audience number at 131.2 million viewers. Last night's Eagles rout of the Chiefs will go down as the new most-watched Super Bowl of all time. FOX conservatively projects 126 million viewers for the game, 131.2m for the halftime and a peak of 135.7m. Final updated numbers coming from Nielsen in the morning. — Michael Mulvihill (@mulvihill79) February 11, 2025 If you are looking for why this happened, there is always significant publicity for every Super Bowl matchup, but this one was boosted by two teams that have been viewership draws in recent years, especially the Chiefs. There was also major viewership momentum heading in. The clash between the Chiefs and Bills was the most-watched AFC Championship Game on record and averaged 57.7 million viewers. And perhaps some were curious about hearing Tom Brady call his first Super Bowl.

2025 Super Bowl Parlay: Our experts make the picks and prop bets to win the weekend

The Super Bowl is here. The Chiefs are taking on the Eagles in the big game, which also means there are several ways in which you can wager and make some extra cash this weekend. But what are the best bets to make? What are the experts saying? And is there a way where you can turn a couple of these picks into a reasonable parlay? Well, we've got you covered, as our FOX Sports betting analysts have laid out their favorite bets for the Super Bowl, creating a five-leg parlay that could win big. The parlay below currently has odds of +4781 or just about 48/1. That means a $20 wager could churn you a healthy profit of $956.12, and a $10 bet could earn you $477.96. So what did the experts have to say? Here's our Super Bowl parlay: Bear: Saquon Barkley's first rush under 4.5 yards (-130 at DraftKings) Barkley's 60-yard TD run on the Eagles first play from scrimmage vs. Washington is fresh on everyone's mind, so I think there will be a good bit of recency bias from those who bet this prop, and a majority of the bets will be on the Over. Yes, he also had a 16 yard gain on his first carry against Green Bay, but I'd expect the Chiefs to load up against the run and force Jalen Hurts to beat them. Barkley has been boom or bust in the postseason, with a single carry or two accounting for a healthy chunk of his yardage total. Geoff: Travis Kelce over 6.5 receptions (+118 at DraftKings) This number is one more than usual, but that doesn't scare me away. As I wrote before the Texans divisional-round playoff game, the best opportunity to wager on Kelce in the postseason is games after a bye. This would qualify, with the Chiefs having a week off before Super Bowl week began. Kelce has been in this position nine times since 2020, and he's been targeted at least six times with six catches in all nine of those games. He's also coming off a game with only two catches against the Bills man coverage scheme, a game in which his age was showing. After not getting a single target in last week's AFC title game, do we really think Gray will suddenly get a bunch of looks from Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl?! I could certainly see a 8-yard touchdown catch on a broken play or something like that, but I'll be surprised if Mahomes goes to the Gray well multiple times. This is Travis Kelce's time to shine and Mahomes tends to look for familiarity on this stage. Some sportsbooks in Las Vegas are as low as O/U 11.5 yards on Gray, so please get the best number. Every yard matters in this racket. Jason: Chiefs over 2.5 field goals (+256 at at FanDuel) You have to go all the way back to the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl in February 2023 to find the last time Harrison Butker missed a field goal in the playoffs. He's 15-for-15 in the last two years. The Eagles' red zone defense is formidable; it was ranked fifth this season. And Butker's range is excellent. Will: Chiefs ML (-116 at FanDuel) The spread has been around either 1 or 1.5 for most of the time, since the moments right after the Chiefs beat the Bills in the AFC Championship Game. It's pretty much split at the time that I'm writing this at either 1 or 1.5, and some people might think the spread won't matter when it's that low — and they're probably right. However, keep in mind that in the playoffs, both teams get the ball at least once if the game goes to overtime. And if the team who starts with the ball scores a touchdown, the other team will very likely go for two if they're able to match it with a touchdown of their own, in order to avoid the sudden death format that would follow. That is a long-winded way of saying this game ending with a 1-point margin is perhaps more likely than some might think. Anyway, I'm going with the Chiefs. My reasoning won't win any awards for creativity or originality, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. And it's because I just can't go against Patrick Mahomes . And furthermore, in what's expected to be a close game, I'd rather have Mahomes and coach Andy Reid as opposed to Hurts and Nick Sirianni. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Super Bowl 2025 odds: 8 bets to make before the Big Game

There are countless ways to bet on Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and Eagles. You've got the usual plays, novelty props and entertaining props. It can be overwhelming, but that's where I come in with the assist. I've got eight props for you to consider, and it's a mixed bag. But it's all pretty tasty. Let's dive in. 1. Chiefs Over/Under 2.5 field goals You have to go all the way back to the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl in February 2023 to find the last time Harrison Butker missed a field goal in the playoffs. He's 15-for-15 in the last two years. The Eagles' red zone defense is formidable; it was ranked fifth this season. And Butker's range is excellent. PICK: Chiefs (+256) Over 2.5 field goals 2. Kickoff or punt return touchdown Nikko Remigio is a burner with explosive speed, and the first-year player from Fresno State has had two big returns this postseason — despite not scoring. He took a kickoff back 63 yards against the Texans and returned a punt 41 yards against the Bills. PICK: Yes (+980) kickoff or punt return touchdown 3. Which will be higher — Total points in Celtics-Knicks or Jalen Hurts passing yards? Boston and New York met in the first game of the season and the Celtics rolled 132-109. If you expect a similar score in this meeting, you're not betting on this. The Knicks have improved drastically, and Boston is somewhat slumping, despite a nice win over the Cavaliers on Tuesday. Hurts had two quiet passing games to start the playoffs, then had 246 against the bad Washington secondary. Two years ago in the playoffs, Hurts had two quiet passing games in blowouts, then went for 304 yards in an electric performance against K.C. in Super Bowl LVII. PICK: Hurts' passing yards higher than Celtics-Knicks point total (+130) 4. Longest touchdown Over/Under 34.5 yards Between Saquon Barkley's game-breaking ability and A.J. Brown being the best deep threat in the game, it feels like the Eagles should be able to cover this. The Chiefs have done a great job limiting big plays this postseason, and the chess match of what Steve Spagnuolo will do to prevent Saquon from going nuclear is going to be fascinating to watch unfold. PICK: Longest TD Over 34.5 yards 5. Saquon Barkley first TD scorer Given the season he's had, you have to at least have one Saquon ticket come Sunday. The Eagles will set the tone with the run game. Ignore all the nonsense about how they've got to change it up and pass the ball early. PICK: Saquon Barkley (+351) to be first TD scorer 6. Saquon Barkley to score 3+ TDs Don't act like it's not in play. Barkley just scored three against Washington. If you expect a close, high-scoring game, this ticket makes sense. PICK: Saquon Barkley (+1600) to score 3+ touchdowns 7. Eagles' winning margin 7-12 points The Philadelphia defensive line has been utterly dominant all season, and I keep having flashbacks to Patrick Mahomes running for his life with a depleted offensive line against Tampa Bay in Super Bowl LV. Obviously, the situation isn't that bad this time around, but Vic Fangio has a strong unit — especially in the trenches. If Philly can get out to a lead, unleash the pass rush and control the clock with Barkley, a comfortable Eagles win could unfold. PICK: Eagles winning margin 7-12 points (+505) 8. Noah Gray Over/Under 12.5 receiving yards The Eagles cornerbacks have been so good, quarterbacks haven't really tested them. Instead, they're checking down or going to tight ends in the middle of the field. This could line up to be a big game for Travis Kelce or his backup, Noah Gray. All Kelce props seem inflated. Blame the Taylor Swift factor. So I'll opt for Gray, who could get this in two catches. PICK: Noah Gray (-106) Over 12.5 receiving yards Jason McIntyre is a FOX Sports betting analyst who also writes about the NFL and NBA Draft. Greg Olsen, from calling Fox Super Bowl to not calling Fox Super Bowl, says: "It sucks"

Two years ago, Fox was preparing to televise a Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl. Greg Olsen was preparing to call the game. Currently, Fox is preparing to televise a Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl. Greg Olsen is not. He's been making the media rounds this week. In an interview with Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, Olsen summed up his thoughts on the current state of his multiple-Emmy-winning career: 'It sucks.' Olsen told Fowler that Olsen has informed the powers-that-be at Fox that he's not happy with his role as the No. 2 analyst behind Tom Brady. 'In my mind, I'm going to call big-time games again,' Olsen told Fowler. 'I'm going to call Super Bowl games again. I just don't know the timeline or the venue.' Tom Brady, who supplements his Fox position with minority ownership of/maximum influence over the Raiders, has nine years left on his contract. And he has said he fully intends to fulfill it. 'It's pretty clear that the path, the upward trajectory as far as Fox goes, probably is a non-factor,' Olsen told Fowler. 'I don't know what the future holds. I enjoy working at Fox. Fox has been very good to me. They know. I've been very honest with them that I'm not content just calling one o'clock regional games for the rest of my career.' All broadcasters aspire for more than what they have. The difference for Olsen is that he's already had more. And he lost his more because Fox chased a bigger name, even if it's not (in the opinion of many) a better voice. 'To go from calling two years of the top games — a Super Bowl and then last year through the NFC Championship,' Olsen told Fowler. 'And now this year, your season just ends in Week 18, and you're home like everybody is, sitting on the couch watching it.' Does he resent Brady? Olsen answered that question for Joseph Person of 'I don't think resentment's probably accurate,' Olsen told Person. 'But I also think it's not too far off, if I'm being honest. I don't have any ill will — there's no personal resentment towards Tom, or obviously [Kevin Burkhardt] and Erin [Andrews]. I still talk to all of them fairly regularly. I'm hoping to see them next week down in New Orleans and grab dinner or a drink and just kind of shoot the shit, catch up.' The art of critiquing broadcaster performance is incredibly subjective and inherently uninformed. No one knows the connection between the analyst's base of knowledge/depth of preparation and the words the analyst chooses to formulate and express in short snippets formulated on the fly. But Olsen has the hardware, twice, for being the best in all of sports. The Emmy that Brady displayed in the background during a recent interview with Colin Cowherd came from the Man in the Arena documentary. And maybe Olsen will win another. He's still doing games. And he will only get better as he has more experience. Eventually, Olsen will experience being a No. 1 analyst again. The problem is that there aren't many seats and they rarely become open. Unless a network decides to throw a gigantic pile of money at the next big name who wants a broadcasting job — even if he also plans to own and operate one of the 32 teams he'll be covering.
