‘We're going to do better': Mahoning Co. Children Services highlights abuse prevention
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – The fight to end child abuse took center stage Friday morning in Boardman.
Advocates gathered at the Holiday Inn for the Pinwheels for Prevention event. This annual event is co-sponsored by Mahoning County Children Services and the Child Advocacy Center at Akron Children's Hospital.
The goal is to encourage everyone to learn warning signs and how to report child abuse when suspected.
Last year in Mahoning County alone, there were over 4,800 reports of neglect.
'We all work so hard but at the end of the day, because there's 1,400 pinwheels in Boardman Park, we haven't done enough. So we have to reaffirm our efforts, reaffirm that we are going to do more. We're going to do better,' said Richard Tvaroch, executive director of Mahoning County Children Services.
If you suspect child abuse, call the Ohio Child Abuse Report Hotline at 855-O-H-CHILD or call Mahoning County Children Services at 330-941-8888.
The pinwheel is a national symbol for child abuse prevention.
You can see the display at Boardman Park now through the end of April.
