Anthem signs provider network agreement with Children's Healthcare
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has entered a provider network agreement with US-based paediatric healthcare provider Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. This multi-year partnership will continue to offer access to 2,300 paediatric doctors and allied health practitioners in more than 60 programmes. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta has three hospitals, Arthur M. Blank, Hughes Spalding and Scottish Rite, and other neighbourhood locations. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Georgia president Robert Bunch said: 'We are pleased to continue our valuable alliance with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to provide specialised care for our youngest members across Georgia. 'We are fortunate to have the Southeast's top paediatric hospital right here in our backyard to make sure access to quality care is not an issue for our children and teens.' The partnership between Anthem and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta will incorporate clinical information and digital links to streamline operations and lessen administrative workloads. These measures aim to facilitate improved, patient-centred treatment and are anticipated to enhance the health results for patients under the care of the healthcare provider who are covered by Anthem health plans. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta CEO Donna Hyland said: 'As Georgia's only freestanding paediatric healthcare system, we are happy that this agreement will maintain access to the specialised paediatric care that Georgia's families depend on. 'We believe every child deserves the care that only Children's can provide.' This agreement follows Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's recent multi-year provider network agreement with Resurgens Orthopaedics, which also focuses on clinical data integration and improving digital connectivity. In April, Inova entered a multi-year agreement with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to continue offering service access for Anthem plan members. "Anthem signs provider network agreement with Children's Healthcare" was originally created and published by Hospital Management, a GlobalData owned brand. GA girl badly injured in ATV crash shares her recovery story
A Morgan County family is sharing a little girl's survival story in an effort to bring awareness to ATV safety. Memorial Day 2023, Mattelyn Atkinson was riding on an ATV known as a Gator with her big sister and two friends when it flipped. Her sister managed to get to her cell phone and call for help. 'She said, 'Momma, the Gator is turned over, and it's on top of us,' Tori Atkinson told Channel 2's Courtney Francisco. A cousin nearby lifted the ATV off as the mom ran to help. Her youngest, Mattelyn, was hurt the worst. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'She looked up and was like, 'Mommy, I'm scared,'' Tori Atkinson said. 'Her entire inside of her ankle was completely gone, yes. It broke all her ribs, her collarbone. She had two leg fractures. It detached her bottom lip from her teeth.' Paramedics flew the little girl from the family farm in Morgan County to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. 'We were immediately so thankful for how quickly the trauma team at Children's cared for Mattelyn,' Tori said. 'It felt like we were surrounded by angels.' Her little girl was 10 years old at the time. Doctors had to put her on a ventilator, perform four surgeries, and she had to learn to walk again. After 28 days in the hospital, doctors at CHOA and Scottish Rite allowed her to come home, continue rehab, and working to walk on her own. Are popular weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy safe for kids?
Popular drugs for weight loss are now being prescribed to kids as young as 12. It's been nearly two years since the FDA approved their use in kids, but some are questioning if these drugs are safe for teens in the long run. Others argue that the health benefits of GLP-1 drugs outweigh the risks. Malya Jones tells Channel 11 that life before getting on weight loss drugs was difficult. 'I've always like been overweight and I've tried workouts and I tried eating healthier and nothing has really worked,' she said. 'Since I've started the medication, it's really helped me and it's boost my energy and my confidence a lot.' At her heaviest, Malya weighed 30 pounds and was living with high blood pressure. 'Last time I did go to the doctor, since my A1C was normal, I already got off one medication,' she said. 'My heaviest was almost 370 pounds,' Jeremiah Jimenez told us. He's lost more than 100 pounds since starting Wegovy last year. 'I have been fortunate enough to see really the true evolution of these medications,' Dr. Daniel HSIA with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta said. He's studied GLP-1 drugs for years. 'We don't know the decades-long impacts that this is going to have,' he said. Some medical studies show these drugs can lead to under-eating, not getting enough calories for growth or abuse of these drugs by those with eating disorders. But, families say the decision to put their teens on GLP-1's didn't come lightly. 'Seeing her being so depressed about her weight, crying sometimes about her weight,' Marthe Jones said. In 2022, the FDA opened the door, allowing teens 12 years and older to be prescribed Semaglutide, it's the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy. Semaglutide dispense rate increased by 594% since 2020 in teens in young adults. 'It was like a hallelujah moment,' said Dr. Jessica Riley, a pediatric obesity specialist at Children's. 'These medications not only reduce appetite by triggering those appetite satiety centers, right, but also by encouraging the pancreas to produce more insulin.' Once prescribed, Riley says they don't just monitor weight loss, but consider blood pressure reduction, mental health, BMI and fat tissue decreases. 'The most common reason to take a patient off a GLP-1 medication has to do with side effects,' she said. Those side effects include vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. Doctors say taking these drugs early could lower the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Parents say the pros outweigh the cons. 'It's a game changer. It's going to save, it's saving lives,' Suzie Jimenez said. Download the FREE WPXI News app for breaking news alerts. Follow Channel 11 News on Facebook and Twitter. | Watch WPXI NOW
