Interstate traffic stops lead to drug charges
Mt. Juliet Police arrested several individuals Wednesday on drug charges and one on probation violation.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle speeding on Interstate 40, and discovered the driver, Chiquita Thornton, 43, of Nashville was wanted in Wilson County for probation violation related to joyriding.
The passenger, Christopher Gates, 22, of Nashville was found in possession of a handgun and drugs. Police say they found ecstasy and cocaine, which they believe was intended for resale.
'Ironically, they were on their way to bond a family member out of jail for burglary,' MJPD said.
In a separate traffic stop on a vehicle for violating the Slow Poke Law, or driving too slow in the far left lane, police found more than one pound of suspected methamphetamine hidden under a seat and on a passenger.
Robert McCray, 41, of Knoxville was arrested for possession of meth with intent to sell. He also was given an additional charge of bringing contraband into jail.
Another occupant, Kenneisha Carter-Hudson, 36, also of Knoxville, was charged with conspiracy to sell meth.
