Heavy rain lashes several parts of Chittoor district
Heavy rain lashed several parts of Chittoor district on Sunday afternoon. The sky, which remained overcast since the morning, led to plummeting of the temperatures that soared to 40 degrees Celsius in Nagari and Karveti Nagaram mandals. The downpour, which started around 2 p.m., lasted for a couple of hours, leaving several residential areas under the Chittoor Municipal Corporation limits waterlogged. Traffic on the Chittoor-Kanipakam road was halted briefly due to snapped powerlines and a couple of partially uprooted poles at Lilly Bridge junction, following heavy gales. Waterlogging was reported from Gandhi Road, M.S.R. junction and P.C.R. junction. Meanwhile, Punganur and Kuppam mandals received heavy rain in the last 24 hours, bringing respite to the farmers, who had taken up vegetable cultivation. Downpour and heavy rains were reported from the neighbouring mandals of Gangadhara Nellore, S.R. Puram, Irala, and Puthalapattu, where mangoes are cultivated across vast acres of land. Downpour and heavy winds in the months of May and June adversely impact the yield every year.
