Nashik: The Saykheda police of Nashik Rural arrested Abhishek Patil, a 24-year-old resident of Dwarka in Nashik city, on charges of cheating a woman of Rs 4.5 lakh. Patil allegedly posed as the nephew of state minister of water resources Girish Mahajan, and claimed he could secure the woman a position in the police department. Following the victim's complaint, the Saykheda police registered a case against Patil, who hails from Jamner in Jalgaon but is a current resident of Dwarka. He has been charged under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 319(2) (cheating by personation), 318(4) (cheating), 336 (forgery), and 340 (forged document or electronic record used as genuine) of the BNS. Nashik Rural SP Balasaheb Patil told TOI that the information about the accused was provided by minister Mahajan. "Minister Girish Mahajan called me and informed me that a person was using his name and cheating a woman. The minister also sent a photo of the accused man. After we got the details of the cheating victim, she told us that Abhishek Patil took Rs 4.5 lakh from her parents to secure her a job in the police department. Subsequently, a case was registered with the Saikheda police station, and Patil was arrested," SP Patil said. The complainant, a 19-year-old resident of Aurangpur in Niphad taluka, said that accused Abhishek Patil used to frequent her house and impress upon her parents that he was Mahajan's nephew. He also used to mention his contacts with MLA Gulabrao Patil and Devendra Fadnavis, who was then the deputy chief minister. Patil allegedly obtained Rs 4.5 lakh from her parents to secure a job in the police department. Later, Patil married the complainant's elder sister. The police are investigating the case. Karnataka seeks Rs 1.5 lakh crore Central aid for Bengaluru's global city transformation
BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Rs 1.5 lakh crore in central funding for a series of infrastructure projects aimed at transforming Bengaluru into a global city. In a letter submitted to the Prime Minister, who was in Bengaluru to inaugurate the Namma Metro's Yellow Line and other projects, Shivakumar cited the city's role as India's technology hub and second-largest tax contributor, while highlighting urgent challenges from rapid urbanisation, including traffic congestion, water scarcity, and waste management. The proposed projects include two urban tunnels and elevated corridors on erstwhile national highways (Rs 41,780 crore), arterial road corridors (Rs 15,000 crore), the Rs 27,000 crore Peripheral Ring Road, four integrated solid waste management plants (Rs 3,200 crore), and metro extensions covering 128 km. The Deputy Chief Minister also sought the Centre's support for the construction of double-decker elevated roads along upcoming metro viaducts (Rs 28,916 crore), 300 km of roads along stormwater drains (Rs 3,000 crore), and the sixth phase of the Cauvery Water Supply Scheme (Rs 6,939 crore). Shivakumar further proposed the introduction of a Rapid Rail Transit System for four corridors around Bengaluru, modelled on the Delhi–Meerut network, to link satellite towns and ease urban congestion. He appealed for funding on par with Delhi to ensure sustainable infrastructure, economic growth, and an improved quality of life for over 12 million residents.

Traders body hail Delhi government report on ‘corruption' in Chandni Chowk redevelopment project
It claimed that the initial cost for civil and electrical works — estimated at Rs 27.79 crore — escalated nearly fourfold to Rs 105.93 crore. According to the report, the 1.3-kilometre redeveloped stretch, inaugurated in 2021 by former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, saw its project cost swell from an initial estimate of Rs 65.6 crore to Rs 145 crore. New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) A local traders and residents body has welcomed a government report on the alleged scam in the Chandni Chowk redevelopment plan, and demanded the dissolution of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation and a full audit of its 10 years of operations. Praveen Shankar Kapoor, a Delhi BJP spokesperson and general secretary of the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch, alleged that for the past 25 years, Delhi's governance had been run by officers on deputation. 'These officers have always viewed Chandni Chowk only as a Mughal-era city, never understanding or appreciating its commercial identity. Ignoring reality, these officers have repeatedly proposed plans to develop Chandni Chowk as merely a tourist centre, often persuading Chief Ministers to approve impractical schemes,' he alleged in a statement. After coming to power in 2015, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government began formulating development and beautification projects for Chandni Chowk without understanding or consulting its residents and traders, he claimed. In 2018-19, despite opposition from local trade bodies and the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch, then Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba pushed the redevelopment project prepared by bureaucrats and had it implemented by the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, he said. Kapoor demanded the dissolution of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, 'which has operated arbitrarily,' and a full audit of its ten years of operations.
