New Delhi, Aug 10 (PTI) A local traders and residents body has welcomed a government report on the alleged scam in the Chandni Chowk redevelopment plan, and demanded the dissolution of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation and a full audit of its 10 years of operations.
Praveen Shankar Kapoor, a Delhi BJP spokesperson and general secretary of the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch, alleged that for the past 25 years, Delhi's governance had been run by officers on deputation.
'These officers have always viewed Chandni Chowk only as a Mughal-era city, never understanding or appreciating its commercial identity. Ignoring reality, these officers have repeatedly proposed plans to develop Chandni Chowk as merely a tourist centre, often persuading Chief Ministers to approve impractical schemes,' he alleged in a statement.
After coming to power in 2015, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government began formulating development and beautification projects for Chandni Chowk without understanding or consulting its residents and traders, he claimed.
In 2018-19, despite opposition from local trade bodies and the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch, then Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba pushed the redevelopment project prepared by bureaucrats and had it implemented by the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, he said.

Rs 2500cr spent on administrative infra: Meghalaya CM

Gandhinagar, Aug 13 (PTI) The Gujarat government is moving forward step by step to organise the Commonwealth Games in 2030, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Harsh Sanghavi said on Wednesday. He was addressing the media against the backdrop of a visit by officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by its Director of Games Darren Hall, last week. India had submitted an Expression of Interest (EoI) to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad selected as the host city. 'Last week, senior officials of the Commonwealth Games visited Gujarat. They visited different places mentioned in our proposal where various games can be played," Sanghvi said. The minister said the EoI follows several steps. 'There is a detailed procedure for it (bidding for Commonwealth Games). We are also going step by step for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games," he said, adding that the bidding process will continue. A team from Commonwealth Sport (earlier known as Commonwealth Games Federation) landed in Ahmedabad last Tuesday. The team inspected the prospective venues and interacted with Gujarat government officials. The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will decide the host country in the last week of November in Glasgow. 'The host selection will be based on sustainability, athletic centre, flexibility in terms of regional appeal, there needs to be flexibility in terms of the host nations taken," Harpal Singh, IOA executive member and member of the Sports Committee of Commonwealth Sports, had said last month. Meghalaya second fastest growing state: CM
Shillong: CM Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday highlighted a recent Govt of India report ranking Meghalaya as the second-fastest growing state in the country by Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), just behind Tamil Nadu.
