In the health sector, the govt spent close to Rs 300 crore, significantly upgrading almost all healthcare infrastructure. He said this during his visit to the Mairang C&RD Block yesterday to inaugurate the new Block Office building and advanced healthcare facilities at U Tirot Sing Memorial Hospital, which was upgraded to a 126-bedded facility.
Under educational infrastructure, the govt invested more than Rs 700 crore to construct new govt Lower Primary School buildings throughout the state.
"Over 2,000 govt LP, UP, secondary and higher secondary schools were improved and upgraded. Focus will also be given to SSA buildings, as well as a large number of deficit and ad-hoc school buildings. The goal is to provide enhanced infrastructure in all govt-run and govt-aided institutions," the CM said.
For police stations, in the past three to four years, the state govt spent close to Rs 12–14 crore to improve facilities by providing direct funding to the Superintendents of Police, he said.
The CM announced that all the 56 blocks in the state would get new block buildings and emphasised that every district headquarters should have a convention centre. He informed that the DPR for the Mairang Convention Centre, worth Rs 25 crore, was approved.
Speaking about livelihood opportunities through the development of tourism infrastructure, the CM urged stakeholders to explore ways of providing local services to cater to tourists, given the high tourism potential in the Eastern West Khasi Hills district.

He encouraged the youth to apply for CM Elevate schemes such as those for tourist vehicles, lodges, souvenir shops, and more.
Later in the day, the CM visited the Pyndengumiong Presbyterian Secondary School and announced financial assistance of Rs 15 lakh from the CM's Special Development Fund for the extension of the school building and Rs 3 lakh for its ongoing Silver Jubilee celebrations.
He also inaugurated the new building of Manai Higher Secondary School, equipped with smart classrooms and a community digital library.

5 Men Jailed For Life For Murdering Gurugram Local BJP Leader
Gurugram: A Gurugram court has sentenced five convicts to life imprisonment for the murder of local BJP leader and ex-vice president of the Sohna market committee, Sukhbir Khatana alias Sukhi, police said on Thursday. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sunil Kumar Diwan also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the convicts, they said. The STF had arrested 20 persons for reportedly conducting a recce and carrying out the murder, police said. On September 1, 2022, BJP leader Khatana, a resident of Rithoj village, was gunned down in broad daylight by armed assailants at a Raymonds showroom on the Gurdwara Road near Sadar Bazaar when he was buying clothes. Anurag, the son of the deceased, accused the involvement of Khatana's brother-in-law Chaman and his accomplices in the murder. Based on his complaint, an FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines police station. After a brief investigation, the case was transferred to the Special Task Force (STF), which arrested 20 persons, including Chaman alias Pawan, politician Rohtas Khatana's brother Joginder, and gangster Vikram Singh alias Papla Gujjar. After hearing both sides, the court sentenced five out of the 20 accused on Monday, including Chaman, Yogesh, Deepak, Arun alias Ankul and Rahul. Khatana held the post of vice-chairman of the Sohna Nagar Parishad. His wife Pushpa is presently the councillor from Ward No. 2. Pushpa's brother Chaman had a grudge against Khatana due to his court marriage with his sister, police said. According to police, Chaman conducted a recce of Khatana more than 10 times.

Mangaladevi Bus Terminal finally ready for use
Mangaluru: The Mangaladevi Bus Terminal, which was inaugurated twice by BJP and Congress representatives in Feb and remained idle for nearly six months, will soon be made operational. No buses to Mangaladevi were operating from the new bus terminal ever since it was inaugurated twice in Feb. After holding discussions with bus operators and other stakeholders, Mangaluru RTO Shridhar K Mallad decided that all buses to Mangaladevi should operate from the new bus terminal. He said the decision will be finalised at a meeting of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) to be chaired by deputy commissioner Darshan HV on Aug 18. He said that buses on the route will start entering the bus bay developed by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) once the RTA finalises the proposal. At a Transport Adalat organised by the RTO recently, the issue of the unused bus terminal at Mangaladevi was raised by the public. In fact, various projects, costing a total of Rs 5.9 crore, including a PHC, a veterinary hospital, and a bus bay measuring 110m in length and 11m in width, with a 4m wide footpath, were constructed by the MSCL. A foundation stone laying ceremony for the bus terminal and other projects at Mangaladevi ward was held under the leadership of Premananda Shetty during his tenure as mayor in 2021. Shetty said he also held discussions with MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik and the RTO to put the bus terminal at Mangaladevi into use. It may be recalled that minister Rao inaugurated the projects, including a PHC, a veterinary hospital, a municipal staff complex, park, and the new bus terminal in Mangaladevi ward on Feb 15. Previously, the same facilities were inaugurated by the then mayor Manoj Kumar, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, and Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, on Feb 9. PCMC recovers 167cr property tax in amnesty period
Navi Mumbai: Panvel City Municipal Corporation recovered Rs 167 crore property tax paid by 60,082 property holders. Since the launch of the amnesty scheme, 37,519 property owners have taken 90% fine exemption with a day left (Aug 15) and collectively availed Rs 64.8 crore. A protest was held on Wednesday on the property tax. The scheme was effective from July 18 to Sept 20 but split into four tiers. Those clearing their outstanding property tax between Aug 16 and Aug 31 would get 75% rebate, between Sept 1 and Sept 10 would get 50% discount and from Sept 11 to Sept 20, a 25% waiver of the fine amount. Thousands hit the streets in Panvel to take part in a protest rally covering about 1 km between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk and PCMC head office. Seven major political parties besides various social and other forums joined the protest terming the property tax levied as unlawful, impractical and intended to divert public attention. There is no rebate offered on the basic property tax but the amnesty scheme launched is only to provide relief on the fines/interest amounts. The parties have alleged that despite PCMC being a 'D' class municipal corporation, the property tax levied is equivalent to that of 'A' class civic body like Mumbai.
