Mangaladevi Bus Terminal finally ready for use

Mangaladevi Bus Terminal finally ready for use

Time of India17 hours ago
Mangaluru: The Mangaladevi Bus Terminal, which was inaugurated twice by BJP and Congress representatives in Feb and remained idle for nearly six months, will soon be made operational.
No buses to Mangaladevi were operating from the new bus terminal ever since it was inaugurated twice in Feb. After holding discussions with bus operators and other stakeholders, Mangaluru RTO Shridhar K Mallad decided that all buses to Mangaladevi should operate from the new bus terminal.
He said the decision will be finalised at a meeting of the Road Transport Authority (RTA) to be chaired by deputy commissioner Darshan HV on Aug 18.
He said that buses on the route will start entering the bus bay developed by the Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) once the RTA finalises the proposal. At a Transport Adalat organised by the RTO recently, the issue of the unused bus terminal at Mangaladevi was raised by the public.
In fact, various projects, costing a total of Rs 5.9 crore, including a PHC, a veterinary hospital, and a bus bay measuring 110m in length and 11m in width, with a 4m wide footpath, were constructed by the MSCL.
A foundation stone laying ceremony for the bus terminal and other projects at Mangaladevi ward was held under the leadership of Premananda Shetty during his tenure as mayor in 2021.
Shetty said he also held discussions with MCC commissioner Ravichandra Naik and the RTO to put the bus terminal at Mangaladevi into use. It may be recalled that minister Rao inaugurated the projects, including a PHC, a veterinary hospital, a municipal staff complex, park, and the new bus terminal in Mangaladevi ward on Feb 15. Previously, the same facilities were inaugurated by the then mayor Manoj Kumar, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, and Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, on Feb 9.
However, the bus terminal was not yet made operational.

CM Mann introduces reward policy for Punjab Police as part of anti-drug campaign

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann introduced a reward policy to felicitate Police officers performing well in the ongoing anti-drug campaign. Addressing the gathering at the state-level function to mark 79th Independence Day here at Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium in Fardikot, CM Mann said that a first-time reward policy has been started in Punjab Police to felicitate cops performing well in the war against drugs. Under this policy, Rs 1.20 lakh will be given to the officers who recover more than one kilogram of heroin. Mann said that the recruitment and promotions in the Punjab Police have been streamlined to enhance the manpower in force. "The government had created 1,600 new police posts to address promotion issues and strengthen the force," he said. Mann said that, for the first time, an anti-drug syllabus has been introduced in the schools of the state to make students aware of the scourge of drugs, adding that mega PTMs have been organised in the schools in which 20 lakh parents and students have participated. India building commercial silicon fab with 50,000 per month wafer production capacity: Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

Agencies Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw India is building a commercial-scale silicon-based fabrication facility (fab) that will churn out 50,000 wafer starts per month, even as such fabs usually operate at 20,000-40,000 wafer starts per month, electronics and information technology (IT) minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday. The minister was referring to the Rs 91,000 crore fab being built by Tata Electronics in Gujarat's Dholera, which was approved in February last year. In semiconductor manufacturing, a wafer is a thin, circular slice of a crystalline semiconductor material, most commonly silicon, upon which integrated circuits are fabricated. "Six semiconductor units, one fab and five Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging units, are at different stages of planning, construction and execution. Four more (one silicon carbide fab and three ATMP including the most advanced packaging unit) were approved last week. The entire ecosystem - design, fabrication, packaging, equipment, chemicals, gases - taking shape in Bharat," Vaishnaw said in a post on social media platform X. Two of the largest equipment manufacturers—Applied Materials and Lam Research—are setting up their design, production, and validation facilities in the country, he added. Also Read: Four new semiconductor units worth Rs 4,594 crore to come up in Odisha, AP, Punjab: Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Vaishnaw's comments came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his Independence Day speech that while the first proposal to set up a semiconductor factory in India got killed 60 years back, the country will finally get semiconductor chips that are 'Made in India' and 'Made by Indians' before the year is over. Elaborating on the PM's statement, Vaishnaw said semiconductor industry pioneer Robert Noyce had come to India to set up a plant in 1964, but the erstwhile Permit Raj implemented by the ruling Congress Party back then did not allow him to. Royce then moved to Hong Kong and founded global tech major Intel Corporation, Vaishnaw claimed in his post. Nicknamed "the Mayor of Silicon Valley," Robert Noyce was an American physicist and entrepreneur who co-founded Fairchild Semiconductor in 1957 and Intel Corporation in 1968. Fairchild Semiconductor was a pioneer in the manufacturing of transistors and of integrated circuits, while Intel created the world's first commercial microprocessor chip—the Intel 4004—in 1971. Both companies were founded and incorporated in California. "Once again, it was not allowed because of the policy paralysis of the UPA regime," Vaishnaw said, questioning Congress General Secretary and Member of Parliament Jairam Ramesh on it. Earlier in the day, Ramesh had posted on X that the Semiconductors Complex Ltd (SCL) was established in Chandigarh during the Congress regime, starting operations in Vaishnaw argued that despite being established so many years back, SCL, Mohali, continues to work at just a lab scale. Steel City bus depot to become history from September 1

Visakhapatnam: The Steel City bus depot, famously known as Kurmannapalem depot, will become history as the RTC authorities reportedly decided to wind up the depot as the lease period of the depot would be completed by November. The higher authorities decided to vacate the land owned by the Vizag Steel Plant (VSP), which has been demanding above 133 crore to extend the lease period to another 33 years. The plant management did not agree to the nominal price. The Steel City Bus Depot was set up by the RTC in 1990 at Kurmannapalem to cater to the needs of the public of Steel Plant, Steel Township, Kurmannapalem, and surrounding areas. They took eight acres of land from the VSP on lease at a price of above 8 lakh. RTC constructed a boundary wall and a garage on five acres, and a bus complex and administrative building on another three acres. For this, it spent around 5 crore. In the recent meeting, the RTC MD allegedly asked the local authorities to shift the buses in the depot as early as possible by August 31. "We are not in a position to bear 133 crore security deposit without interest and also service charges of around five crores to the VSP Management," one of the senior officers said on condition of anonymity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Benefits of Trading Bitcoin CFDs IC Markets Learn More Undo The financial position of the RTC in recent years has drastically come down, and it is not in a position to bear the huge amount for the lease. The authorities of RTC wrote to the steel plant to continue the lease period with allegedly around 35 crore. The RTC MD asked the local authorities to shift the buses to other depots by August 31. All the 84 buses in the depot, including 50 RTC buses and the remaining hired buses, would be accommodated in the Gajuwaka, Simhachalam, Maddilapalem, and Madhurawada depots. There are buses running from Steel Plant or Kurmannapalem (No. 211) to Vizianagaram-Kurmannapalem that would be accommodated in Vizianagaram, sources said. Likewise, Anakapalli to Steel Plant area buses would be accommodated at Anakapalli. When contacted, the Visakhapatnam Regional Manager of RTC, Appala Naidu, said that they have been corresponding with the VSP and are yet to make a decision.
