Moving New Trailer For THE LIFE OF CHUCK From Director Mike Flanagan and Stephen King — GeekTyrant

NEON released another trailer for the Mike Flanagan's beautiful-looking Stephen King movie The Life of Chuck . This trailer is very moving and teases a incredibly emotional story. This is one of my most anticipated films of the year. It's been getting a ton of great reviews, and I hope that if the movie really is as great as everyone says it is, this is will be a big hit at the box office. King recently opened up about the Tom Hiddleston-led film, and this is what he saying:'It's a wonderful movie. I don't know if it will do any business or not. I don't know if people are in the mood for that sort of warm-hearted thing. 'It's not what I would call syrupy and sentimental because it does have an acknowledgment that life can be very, very difficult. But Hiddleston did a great job as Chuck. I love that movie.' The Life of Chuck is 'three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.' The film is described as an apocalyptic version of It's a Wonderful Life , and King, who has seen the film, says that it's 'a happiness machine.' It's also described as 'a Stand By Me for the multiple lives within each of us, pulled between our dreams and down-to-earth pragmatism.' The movie has been met with glowing reviews and it sounds like it's the movie of 2025 that audiences won't want to miss. The film stars Tom Hiddleston in the lead role, Chiwetel Ejiofor ( 12 Years a Slave ), a school teacher trying to apply logic to the planet's troubles; Karen Gillan ( Guardians of the Galaxy ) is his ex, a hospital worker determined to save everyone she can; Matthew Lillard ( Scream ) is a construction worker neighbor who finds zen amid the chaos; and Carl Lumbly ( Alias ), plays a funeral director who has dedicated his life to easing people through death. Hiddleston previously talked about the film, saying: 'Well, he's written something very tender and very wise. I think there is a great wisdom in the soul of the story, which is that it takes courage to hold on to what is good in a world that feels like it's falling apart.' When talking about the disaster aspect of the story, Flanagan explains why this one is different: 'A disaster movie has people meeting the end while running from tidal waves, and this story has people sitting quietly holding hands looking at the stars.' Hiddleston went on to say: 'The life of every human being is a constellation, as expressed in this film. There are certain moments which will burn most brightly as individual stars. 'Sometimes it feels like the world is going to hell in a handcart, and it's full of pain and suffering, and it is—but there are moments of deep joy and deep connection.' The cast also includes Mark Hamill, David Dastmalchian, Chiwetel Ejiofor ( Doctor Strange ), and Jacob Tremblay ( Doctor Sleep ), as well as Mia Sara, Trinity Bliss, Harvey Guillen, Rahul Kohli, and Heather Langenkamp. The Life of Chuck is set to be released on May 30, 2025.

Mike Flanagan Says THE LIFE OF CHUCK Is the Movie He Wants to Be Remembered for; There's Also a New Clip — GeekTyrant

Mike Flanagan has a strong talent for telling existential stories like Midnight Mass , The Haunting of Hill House , Doctor Sleep , and Gerald's Game which all wrestle with mortality in their own ways. But with his next film, The Life of Chuck , Flanagan believes he may have created something even more enduring. Flanagan shared in an essay posted on social media: 'There are very few pieces of work that I imagine will outlive me in a meaningful way. You always hope they will; we hope that in telling the stories we tell, we are planting a seed that will grow long after we've faded away. 'I have no idea which of these seeds will take root with people, and dwelling on those questions is a path to insanity. I feel a quiet, humble confidence that The Life of Chuck will long outlast us all.' That's a big statement coming from someone who's also attached to high-profile IPs like The Exorcist , Carrie , Batman , and The Dark Tower . But it's clear that Thee Life of Chuck hits a different nerve because it's so personal. Based on the short story by Stephen King, The Life of Chuck plays out the life of a man, Chuck, in reverse. It's a poetic, emotional unraveling, and Tom Hiddleston leads a incredible ensemble that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, and Mark Hamill. It's the kind of movie where performances matter, but so does the feeling it leaves behind. Flanagan continues: 'The Life of Chuck is, at this moment in time, my favorite movie I've ever been a part of. I told people going into production that this was the film I wanted to leave in the world for my children. 'It is so rare to work on something so meaningful, so unique, so distinct, and so earnest. This is a story without a cynical bone in its body. What a rare and beautiful moment of art.' The story that the film is based on is thoughtful, deeply human, and surprisingly warm for Stephen King, and I can't wait wait to watch this film adaptation. It's gotten great reviews! I also included a clip from the film for you to watch below

‘The Life of Chuck' Is the Movie Mike Flanagan Wants to Be Remembered For

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has already created quite a legacy for himself. From his films like Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game, to shows like The Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass, and The Haunting of Hill House, Flanagan has basically become his own brand, especially in the horror genre. And yet, even though he's also attached to films or shows in the worlds of The Exorcist, Carrie, The Dark Tower, and Batman, none of that is what he thinks he'll be remembered for. No, Flanagan thinks his next movie, The Life of Chuck, is going to be that legacy. Or, at least, that's what he hopes. 'There are very few pieces of work that I imagine will outlive me in a meaningful way,' Flanagan wrote in excerpts of an essay released on social media. 'You always hope they will; we hope that in telling the stories we tell, we are planting a seed that will grow long after we've faded away. I have no idea which of these seeds will take root with people, and dwelling on those questions is a path to insanity. I feel a quiet, humble confidence that The Life of Chuck will long outlast us all.' For those who may not be aware, The Life of Chuck is based on a short story by the one and only Stephen King. It tells the story of one man's life—in this case, Chuck—backwards. Tom Hiddleston plays Chuck in some parts of the movie, and he's joined by the likes of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, and Mark Hamill, among many others. 'The Life of Chuck is, at this moment in time, my favorite movie I've ever been a part of,' Flanagan, who adapted the screenplay and directs, continues. 'I told people going into production that this was the film I wanted to leave in the world for my children. It is so rare to work on something so meaningful, so unique, so distinct, and so earnest. This is a story without a cynical bone in its body. What a rare and beautiful moment of art.' The film won the very prestigious People's Choice Award at last year's Toronto Film Festival and is coming to theaters June 6. Plus, I have to say, I agree with Flanagan here. I've seen The Life of Chuck and while it's a complex thinker of a movie, it's also rich and absolutely phenomenal. It's stuck with me weeks after first seeing it. io9 will have a full review and more as we get closer to release, but until then, here's a new clip from the film that is not only crucial to the movie overall, but will give you a sense of what Flanagan is saying. A whole universe right between your hands. THE LIFE OF CHUCK. From the hearts and souls of Mike Flanagan and Stephen King. In Select Cities 6.6, Everywhere 6.13. — NEON (@neonrated) May 19, 2025

TV tonight: the bizarre comedy that just gets funnier and murkier

9.30pm, BBC One Daisy May Cooper and Selin Hizli's wonderfully bizarre comedy drama gets murkier and funnier as Nic (Cooper) continues to completely spiral. Yes, she is dealing with the emotional turmoil of trying to get away with murdering her extramarital lover and brother-in-law. But she is also doing marriage therapy, worrying about her cat-killing son, Ollie (the awesome Lenny Rush), and oversharing with her fishy friend Jen (Hizli). And all this comes with cracking gag after cracking gag. Hollie Richardson 8pm, Channel 4 Steven and Adeola's family have grown out of their three-bedroom house – to the point of using their en suite bathroom as a walk-in wardrobe. Will a £45,000 budget be enough to make necessary tweaks, or is it time to move on? Kirstie and Phil step in with differing ideas. HR 9pm, BBC One Amanda (Lucy Punch) gets a job! She is helping to sell kitchens in a showroom – but sees it as more of a 'collaboration' with her influencer platform 'Senuous' (no, that is not a typo; she is hellbent on creating a new word). Meanwhile, Anne (Philippa Dunne) becomes a maths tutor and it's Della (Siobhán McSweeney)'s birthday. HR 9pm, BBC Two Could DNA advances help to solve a 1984 case in which a Glasgow woman was found strangled by her dressing-gown cord, after being seen walking home from a pub followed by a man? This documentary covers the renewed hunt for the killer and delves into the original case files, looking at the teams of investigators now and in the 80s. Alexi Duggins 9pm, ITV1 Rev Alphy Kotteram has been naughty. He has enjoyed a night of passion with a student who has promptly disappeared. Worse still, one of her colleagues has been found dead. This slice of Cambridgeshire cosy crime is more scandalous than usual, but, nine seasons in, we can rest assured that all will be well – eventually. Phil Harrison 9pm, Channel 4 After 14 years abroad, Kazal and Eleena have returned to the West Midlands to overhaul a knackered house in Solihull. George Clarke is impressed with their vision of a spacious home ideal for hosting family gatherings. But is it wise for them to live on-site during such a disruptive rebuild? Graeme Virtue Rob Peace (Chiwetel Ejiofor, 2024), Paramount+ Written, directed by and co-starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, this 'based on a true story' drama undoubtedly qualifies as a labour of love. It traces the youth and young adulthood of an academically gifted New Jersey kid, Rob (a charismatic turn from Tulsa King's Jay Will), whose father (Ejiofor) has been wrongly jailed for murder. It's a film about potential realised and wasted and is tragic but inspirational. Rob adopts various personae – Yale student, property developer, teacher, even Walter-White-style drug chemist – all while pursuing his dad's legal case. Simon Wardell Premier League football: Aston Villa v Liverpool 6.30pm, TNT Sports 2. From Villa Park. Champions League football: Real Madrid v Man City 7pm, TNT Sports 1. The second leg of the play-off tie at the Bernabéu. City trail 3-2 from the first leg.
