Picking up a bow allowed Chloë McPolin to live out her Hunger Games fantasy, but she soon found that archery is not ideal as a solo activity Recently, I haven't really indulged in many outdoor pursuits in my quest to find a hobby – which is interesting, considering we're in the depths of summer. It wasn't until recently when my housemates and I watched every Hunger Games film known to man that I saw Katniss Everdeen looking effortlessly suave with her bow and arrow, shooting down rivals and prey. It reminded me that I hadn't yet given archery a go. While it may often be written off as just another stag-do activity, I couldn't shake the image of myself with a bow and arrow. The idea appealed not only to my new interest in the Hunger Games but also to my long-standing aspiration to cosplay as an aristocrat.

Chloë finds a hobby: My photos are poor as I focus on social side of Dublin Camera Club
Joining a photography group gave Chloë McPolin a novel way to see Dublin, but trying to get to grips with a high-tech camera was a struggle too far This week on my quest to find a hobby, I tried to think back to my failed hobby attempts in my youth. One of my many failed endeavours was photography. For Christmas in 2016, I plagued my parents for a top-of-the-range Canon camera. I wanted it because all the beauty influencers on YouTube used this particular kind to film their videos. After taking three pictures on the camera on Christmas morning, like most of my hobbies, the camera was dumped in the back of my wardrobe to collect dust forever more – sorry Mum and Dad. I am surprised that this hobby attempt didn't work, because I have always loved photography. For as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed curating a nice selection of photos and get quite the thrill from taking a beautiful photo for Instagram – but maybe that's just for vanity purposes.
