Beloved Kellogg's Chocolate Cereal Officially Discontinued
Cereal aisles across the United Kingdom just got a little less sweet, and fans of one chocolatey favorite are starting to notice. After a highly anticipated return and a wave of nostalgic buzz, Kellogg's Chocolate Corn Flakes cereal has suddenly disappeared from shelves. But this isn't just a case of low stock or limited-time supply. Something bigger is at play, and the reason why it won't be coming back anytime soon is raising eyebrows among devoted breakfast lovers. More than a year after the sudden disappearance of one of its most talked-about breakfast cereals, Kellogg's has finally issued an official update — and it's not the news fans were hoping for. The company confirmed to The Sun that there are 'no current plans' to bring back its chocolate-covered corn flakes, which were pulled from UK supermarket shelves in May of last year due to a major recall. The £2.75 ($3.69) boxes of Kellogg's Corn Flakes Chocolate Flavor were removed after concerns emerged that they might contain 'hard lumps' capable of causing choking or dental injury. Since then, the beloved cereal has remained off the shelves, sparking waves of speculation and disappointment among loyal fans. Many took to social media to question the product's future and express their nostalgia. Writing on X, one user asked: 'Did @KelloggsUKI discontinue chocolate cornflakes again?' Another wondered: 'I know you recalled chocolate cornflakes, but are they ever going to be back again, they were only brought back for a few weeks then recalled.' A third chimed in: 'Any idea when your chocolate cornflakes are coming back in store?' Others expressed excitement amid rumors of a comeback, with one fan reportedly declaring the cereal '10/10.' In response to the growing curiosity, a Kellogg's spokesperson shared a bittersweet statement: 'We love that Kellogg's fans are so passionate about their favorite cereals, and we're proud to be a part of millions of people's breakfasts each morning in the UK. We can never say never, but while there are no current plans to bring back Chocolate Corn Flakes, we do have lots of other exciting new products out now, like Kellogg's Oaties and Bluey Multigrain cereal, with more coming next year for cereal lovers to try.' While die-hard fans may hold out hope for a future return, it seems this chocolatey favorite won't be making its way back to breakfast tables anytime soon. Kellogg's fans were thrilled when the breakfast giant brought back its chocolate corn flakes after more than a decade, reviving what many hailed as the 'best Corn Flakes ever.' First introduced in 2013 to glowing reviews, the beloved cereal mysteriously vanished the same year, despite its popularity with shoppers. In January 2024, Kellogg's gave fans a second chance, reintroducing the cereal with a modern twist. Unlike the original version, which was coated in chocolate, the revamped recipe featured cocoa-coated flakes — a subtle change that offered the same indulgent taste while boosting its nutritional profile with added vitamin D and fiber. Emily Dutton, activation manager at Kellogg's, shared her enthusiasm with The Sun during the relaunch: 'It's great to be bringing chocolate flavour Corn Flakes to breakfast tables. They can be eaten alone for an extra crunch or with milk, where the coating washes off to make the milk delectably chocolatey, whilst the Corn Flakes stay crispy.' But just a few months later, excitement gave way to disappointment. By May, the cereal was abruptly recalled after the UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) warned consumers to dispose of the 450g packs and request a full refund. Chicago-based Kellanova — formerly Kellogg Company and the manufacturer of Kellogg's cereals in Europe — cited a product quality issue behind the decision. 'We are voluntarily recalling Kellogg's Corn Flakes Chocolate Flavor cereal due to a quality defect,' Kellanova explained. This quality defect is the previously mentioned 'hard lumps' that could cause choking or dental damage. Kellogg's Chocolate Corn Flakes cereal is not available in the US. However, Kellogg's offers several chocolate-flavored cereals in the American market, including: Kellogg's Frosted Flakes Chocolate Milkshake: This cereal features a rich chocolate and sweet vanilla flavor coating each flake, turning the milk in your bowl into a deliciously silky chocolate treat. Kellogg's Special K Chocolatey Delight: A blend of crunchy rice and wheat flakes with a chocolatey coating, satisfying your sweet cravings while offering a lighter option. Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies: A classic chocolate-flavored cereal that turns your milk into a chocolaty delight, reminiscent of the original Rice Krispies but with a cocoa twist. Kellogg's axes popular cereal after mass supermarket recall
Kellogg's axes popular cereal after mass supermarket recall Kellogg's has confirmed it has no plans to bring back its chocolate-flavoured Corn Flakes, which were recalled last year A popular cereal will no longer be available, much to the disappointment of fans (Image: Martin Rickett/PA ) Kellogg's has decided to cease production of a cherished cereal following a widespread recall. The chocolate-flavoured Corn Flakes have been permanently pulled from supermarket shelves after being absent for a year, much to the dismay of their fans. The cereal giant issued a recall of this popular breakfast item last May owing to a "small proportion" of the boxes having "hard lumps of cereal that do not soften when eaten with milk". This presented a "minimal risk" of these lumps posing a choking hazard or causing damage to teeth. They had enjoyed a short-lived five-month return to the market after an absence of over a decade. Kellogg's chocolate Corn Flakes offered up the iconic flakes encased in cocoa, delivering a crisp bite and chocolaty flavour—a shift from previous versions that were coated in chocolate instead of cocoa. One person took to X, saying: "Did @KelloggsUKI discontinue chocolate cornflakes again?" Another questioned: "I know you recalled chocolate cornflakes, but are they ever going to be back again, they were only brought back for a few weeks then recalled." One probed: "Any idea when your chocolate cornflakes are coming back in store?", reports the Express. The prospect had shoppers buzzing with excitement, with one individual commenting: "glad to hear it". Another eagerly asked: "When when when?!!" A third expressed enthusiasm saying: "YES they were 10/10." They added, "We can never say never, but while there are no current plans to bring back Chocolate Corn Flakes, we do have lots of other exciting new products out now, like Kellogg's Oaties and Bluey Multigrain cereal, with more coming next year for cereal lovers to try." The discontinuation of Chocolate Corn Flakes is not an isolated incident; Kellogg's has also recently stopped producing Al Bran Golden Crunch and the Frosties multipack. In a similar vein, Weetabix has ceased production of Alpen cereal bars, Tesco has discontinued its own-brand apricot wheats, and Nestle has said goodbye to Vanilla O's and Golden Grahams.
