Proposed tax in Caddo Parish sparks controversy
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Caddo Parish Commissioner Chris Kracman is upset over a proposed sales tax on customers of the TA Express travel center in his district.
Kracman said this during a work session, 'To raise taxes in somebody else's damn district is disrespectful without one word said to the commissioner of that district.'

'I felt that it was important for us to be able to honor our agreement that we made in 2021, they honored all agreements that was set forth and all tasks that they had to complete and they honored those so now its time for us to honor our word,' Thomas said.
The tax would be around two percent on top of the state and local tax for a total of around twelve percent. Kracman said the tax is too high on his constituents, but the mayor of Hosston disagrees.
'Caddo Parish agreed to basically pay back Hedgmonth Holdings for building the infrastructure,' Mayor Kim Janyes said.
Kracman said during the meeting it is corporate welfare.

'So this welfare thing is that we laid out the money so we're backing Caddo Parish is how this is working so we are not asking for free anything,' Hedgmonth Holdings CEO James Silvio said.
The ordinance will move forward, with public comments to be heard during the March 20 commission meeting.
