Rural emergency response team seeks new members after number of challenges faced

A community support group in a rural part of Cumbria is seeking new members and volunteers. In the past 7 years alone, the Alston Moor Emergency Response Group has faced a number of emergency situations like extreme weather conditions, power cuts and the Covid-19 pandemic. Many areas of the country have faced the same challenges, however due to its remote location, Alston Moor has more problems than most. Alston Moor Emergency Response Group (AMERG) was formed in March 2020 to attempt to address these issues as much as possible. This is a partnership bringing together community workers, local voluntary sector organisations, community representatives and local service providers, and has been established to support all residents of Alston Moor. A spokesperson for AMERG said: 'Past experience tells us that as a community, we need to be prepared to act quickly, but we need people on the ground who are willing and available to help when the next emergency strikes.' A volunteer from Cockermouth Emergency Response Group will be speaking and PC Chris Newman and PC Tony Labram from Eden Police will be in attendance.
