Hulk Hogan, Wrestling Icon and Pop Culture Legend, Dies at 71
Hulk Hogan, Wrestling Icon and Pop Culture Legend, Dies at 71 originally appeared on Parade. Hulk Hogan, the pro wrestling titan who helped launch WWE into mainstream stardom and became one of the most recognizable figures in sports entertainment history, has died at 71. His family confirmed the news to Us Weekly. His manager, Chris Volo, confirmed to NBC that Hogan died while surrounded by loved ones at his home in Clearwater, Florida. TMZ Sports was first to report that emergency responders were called to Hogan's home early Thursday morning for a 'cardiac arrest.' According to the outlet, multiple police vehicles and EMTs were seen outside the residence, and Hogan — born Terry Gene Bollea — was carried from the scene on a stretcher before being transported by ambulance. A statement shared with Parade from the Clearwater Fire Department and Police Department said that officials responded to a medical call at 9:51 a.m. "The nature of the call was for a cardiac arrest," the statement said. "A 71-year-old resident, Terry Bollea, also known as Hulk Hogan, was treated by Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews before being taken by Sunstar to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased." A media briefing will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at Clearwater Police Department headquarters. As of Thursday afternoon, no official statement has been released by Hogan's family or representatives. The WWE shared that it was "saddened" by the news, calling Hogan "one of pop culture's most recognizable figures" and extending condolences to his family, friends, and fans. Parade reached out to Hogan's reps, but did not immediately hear back. The shocking news comes just weeks after speculation swirled about Hogan's health, with rumors circulating that he was in a coma or on his 'deathbed.' At the time, those claims were publicly denied by Hogan's wife, Sky, who told TMZ that 'his heart was strong' and that he was simply recovering from a recent spinal procedure. "No, he's definitely not in a coma! His heart is strong, and there was never any lack of oxygen or brain damage… none of those rumors are true," she said earlier this month. 'Hulk had pretty serious heart surgery a few weeks ago and was doing well afterward,' another source told UsWeekly at the time. It was also reported that Hogan had undergone a major neck surgery in May — an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion — and was experiencing post-operative symptoms. Close friend and longtime wrestling manager Jimmy Hart also pushed back on the rumors just last week, telling fans on social media, 'Hulk is doing great, doing phenomenal! Last night at karaoke with Nick was absolutely fantastic, baby!!!' Hogan, who had endured over two dozen surgeries in the past decade, including repeated operations on his back, knees, shoulders, and hips, was known to be living with chronic pain. Still, until Thursday, the tone from those around him remained positive. Born on August 11, 1953, in Augusta, Georgia, and raised in Tampa, Florida, Hogan became the face of professional wrestling in the 1980s. With his iconic handlebar mustache, red-and-yellow gear, and booming charisma, he was larger than life both inside and outside the ring. Hogan is survived by his wife, Sky Daily Hogan, and his children, Brooke and Nick, from his first marriage. The family has yet to comment publicly, and no funeral details have been released at this time. This is a developing story... Hulk Hogan's Last Public Photo Goes Viral
Hulk Hogan's Last Public Photo Goes Viral originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Thursday morning, emergency crews were dispatched to the Clearwater, Florida, residence of WWE legend and Hall of Fame wrestler Hulk Hogan after reports of someone having suffered a cardiac arrest. According to the Clearwater Police Department and WWE statements, Hogan was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead at age 71. His longtime manager, Chris Volo, confirmed the cause of death as cardiac arrest; Hogan was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Shortly after the news broke, a photograph taken recently that showed Hogan looking frail and largely unrecognizable went viral. It reignited the debate about his health in the days before his passing. Fans online were quick to voice their opinion. "He does not look well," said one user. "Wow I feel like he knew his time was coming," another fan commented. "You can see he is looking sick here 😤," one other user responded. "Look at his eyes he feel something wrong I love u brotha my childhood hero RIP," another fan replied. "He seemed pretty ill in this photo RIP to the hulkster," said one other commenter. "He looked exhausted, RIP," another user responded. Similar statements were echoed back in May during Hogan's interview with "Fox & Friends." In the world of professional wrestling, few names resonate as strongly as Terry Gene Bollea, better known to generations of fans as Hulk Hogan. Across a career spanning four decades, Hogan's unmistakable handlebar mustache, yellow-and-red ring gear and "Hulkamania" catchphrases transformed him into the face of sports entertainment. He headlined WWE's flagship event, WrestleMania, on eight occasions and captured six WWE World Heavyweight Championships during the 1980s boom. In 1994, he crossed over to World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he claimed the WCW World Heavyweight Championship six times. At one point, he held the title longer than any competitor in the promotion's history. Although Hogan's long‐term health struggles were known within wrestling circles, the sudden collapse still came as a shock to casual fans. His wife, Sky Daily, had posted a lighthearted family photo on social media weeks earlier and no public statements had hinted at an imminent story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 24, 2025, where it first appeared. Hulk Hogan, wrestling star and actor, dies aged 71
Hulk Hogan, the wrestling star turned vocal supporter of Donald Trump, has died at the age of 71, his manager confirmed. Chris Volo told NBC Los Angeles that Hogan, given name Terry Gene Bollea, suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida, and died surrounded by his family. Rumors about Hogan's health have swirled for weeks, after he reportedly was hospitalized. Just last week, his wife, Sky, denied rumors that he was in a coma, stating that his heart was 'strong' after multiple surgeries. Instantly recognizable from his blonde horseshoe mustache and bandanas, Hogan was one of the most popular wrestling stars of the 1980s and considered one of the sport's greatest of all time. Known for his ring theatrics and sizable physique, he helped transform professional wrestling into home entertainment, primarily through his partnership with Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The entertainment company also confirmed Hogan's death and mourned its former star in a statement on X: 'WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture's most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans.' In 1996, Hogan founded the New World Order (NWO) and became Hollywood Hulk Hogan. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005, only to have his status revoked after scandal following the release of a secret recording during a sexual encounter, during which Hogan made numerous racist comments. The 2010s blog Gawker first published the recording; Hogan subsequently sued the website, winning and forcing it out of business. Hogan was once again inducted in 2020, as he became a more prominent figure in Donald Trump's 'Make America Great Again' (Maga) political movement. He starred at the 2024 Republican national convention, ripping off his shirt, WWE-style, to reveal a Trump 2024 T-shirt. Ever the performer, Hogan maintained an acting career, appearing in the 1982 film Rocky III as the character Thunderlips, as well as No Holds Barred, Suburban Commando and Mr Nanny. From 2005 and 2007, he starred on the VH1 reality show Hogan Knows Best along with his then wife Linda and his children Brooke and Nick. The Guardian has reached out to Hogan's reps for comment.
