Overloaded power strip sparks fire in North Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – An overloaded electrical power strip sparked an apartment fire that was quickly extinguished in North Charleston, fire officials said Monday.
Crews responded to an office building at 6555 Dorchester Road at 1:14 p.m. for a report of a structure fire, said Deputy Chief Christan Rainey with the North Charleston Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived, they saw light smoke from a first-floor apartment in the office building. They investigated further and found a small fire in the back bedroom that they quickly extinguished.
Rainey explained the fire started from an overloaded electrical power strip under the bed.
No injuries were reported. One person was displaced.
