Drug abuse awareness events held
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed here on Thursday with awareness rallies, administration of pledge and seminars on drug abuse.
A total of 2,250 students of various schools and colleges formed drug abuse awareness messages like 'Say No to Drugs' at VOC Stadium in Palayamkottai and took pledge administered by District Collector R. Sukumar that they would never become victims of substance abuse. Cultural events advocating the need for keeping drugs away were staged on the occasion.
The students took out awareness procession from VOC Stadium to Christhuraja Higher Secondary School on North High Ground Road and distributed awareness pamphlets to the public en route.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli West, Prasannakumar and Chief Educational Officer M. Sivakumar participated in the event.
Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Santosh Hadimani administered pledge against drug abuse to his subordinates. As instructed by the Commissioner of Police, drug abuse awareness rallies were organised by the students of all schools and colleges under each police station.
Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan administered drug abuse pledge to the policemen and the ministerial staff at District Police Office.
In Tenkasi, District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore and Superintendent of Police S. Aravind participated in the drug abuse awareness programmes held at the Government Higher Secondary School.
