Drug abuse awareness events held
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed here on Thursday with awareness rallies, administration of pledge and seminars on drug abuse.
A total of 2,250 students of various schools and colleges formed drug abuse awareness messages like 'Say No to Drugs' at VOC Stadium in Palayamkottai and took pledge administered by District Collector R. Sukumar that they would never become victims of substance abuse. Cultural events advocating the need for keeping drugs away were staged on the occasion.
The students took out awareness procession from VOC Stadium to Christhuraja Higher Secondary School on North High Ground Road and distributed awareness pamphlets to the public en route.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli West, Prasannakumar and Chief Educational Officer M. Sivakumar participated in the event.
Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli City, Santosh Hadimani administered pledge against drug abuse to his subordinates. As instructed by the Commissioner of Police, drug abuse awareness rallies were organised by the students of all schools and colleges under each police station.
Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan administered drug abuse pledge to the policemen and the ministerial staff at District Police Office.
In Tenkasi, District Collector A. K. Kamal Kishore and Superintendent of Police S. Aravind participated in the drug abuse awareness programmes held at the Government Higher Secondary School.

Cops in Barak Valley step up war on drugs
1 2 Silchar: Law enforcement agencies in Assam's Barak Valley are ramping up efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, a growing concern in the region known as a key corridor in the narcotics trade, reports BB Goswami. Cachar additional SP (Crime) Rajat Kumar Pal, speaking at an awareness programme at Silchar Press Club on Thursday, said police are actively working to neutralise trafficking networks. "We are committed to intensifying surveillance, strengthening border controls, and fostering community vigilance," Pal said. The programme, organised by the PIB, Assam, under the Union ministry of information and broadcasting, marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Rally to raise awareness against drug usage held

Belagavi: The Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) Belagavi, in association with the Food Safety & Drug Administration (FDA), Belagavi, successfully organised a rally to raise awareness as part of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Thursday. The event saw an impressive gathering of over 1,000 students, the public, and other participants at Rani Channamma Circle, Belagavi. The rally was flagged off by chief guest Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, commissioner of police, Belagavi City, from Rani Channamma Circle. He participated in the rally until its conclusion at the KLE Centenary Convention Center and addressed the gathering with a few inspiring words. JITO Belagavi chairman Harshavardhan Inchal accompanied the rally. Deputy drug controller Nagaraj, assistant drug controllers K Mallikarjun, Raghuram N, Manohar, drug inspector Renuprasad, and Dayanand from the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA), Belagavi, were present. From JITO Belagavi, event convenor and physician Dr Devagouda Imagoudanavar, along with many other JITO members, were also present. This mega-rally garnered significant support from the Belgaum District Retailer and Wholesale Pharma Association, as well as various educational institutions such as KLE University, Rani Chennamma College of Pharmacy, Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy, Sagar College of Pharmacy, Shree Paramedical, Bharatesh Nursing College, and many more organisations. Throughout the rally, participants enthusiastically chanted slogans to amplify awareness. At the conclusion of the event, JITO Belagavi chief secretary Abhay Adimani extended his gratitude to all who were present, acknowledging their contributions in making the rally a grand success.

Autorickshaw drivers booked for extortion in Coimbatore
Three autorickshaw drivers were booked by the Race Course police on charges of extorting money from a Pudukkottai native. Nowfal Basha, 29, of Rajaveethi at Thennampalayam Road near Annur, R. Senthilkumar, 33, of Selvapuram and their accomplice Raghu were booked based on a complaint from M. Dhanapal, 34, of Pudukkottai district. The accused extorted ₹4,700 from the complainant, after taking him to an isolated place in the city in an autorickshaw on June 14. The police had arrested Basha and Senthilkumar in a similar case before. Office assistant at Coimbatore collectorate ends life A 40-year-man, who was working as an office assistant at Coimbatore district collectorate, ended his life on Wednesday. The police said that the deceased, Karuppusamy, a resident of Tamil Nadu Housing Board apartment complex at Kavundampalayam in the city, took the extreme step late on Wednesday. The Kavundampalayam police have registered a case. Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State's health helpline 104 and Sneha's suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050. 136 kg of drugs seized so far this year in Coimbatore The Coimbatore City Police have seized 136 kg of drugs in 118 cases so far this year, as per an awareness video released by them on Thursday on the occasion of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The police also seized 5,282 kg of banned tobacco products in 168 cases during the period. N. Dhanabalan, a sub-inspector attached to Podanur police station in the city, was selected for Chief Minister's police medal for outstanding work in eradicating drug production and illicit trafficking. According to the police, he assisted in 55 cases, resulting in the arrest of 169 persons, seizure of 161 kg of ganja, 77 gram of methamphetamine and four tonnes of banned tobacco products. Woman dies in accident A 60-year-old woman died after she was run over by a TNSTC bus on Avinashi Road at Peelamedu in the city on Thursday. The police said that G. Vanajamani of Kalapatti died in the accident when she was riding pillion on her husband's two-wheeler. The Traffic Investigation Wing, Coimbatore east, has registered a case.
