New Report Details Howard Stern's and Staff's 'Shock' Over Contract Rumor
With a rumor circulating that The Howard Stern Show may not be back after Stern's contract with SiriusXM runs out at the end of this year, a new report detailed both Stern's and his staff's reaction to the rumor.
According to Jessica Finn of The U.S. Sun, Stern's future with the company is in serious doubt, as sources suggest SiriusXM may not renew his deal because "it's no longer worth the investment."
The Daily Mail's Christine Rendon and Eve Buckland report that the rumor, which came to light Tuesday, came as a "shock" to both Stern and his staff.
According to the report, Stern first learned of the rumor from a Google alert while at his home in the Hamptons. Some of Stern's friends began calling him, the report adds, but he only picked up for late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel.
"First I'm hearing of it," Stern allegedly said.
Meanwhile, Stern's staff had just finished up a get-together at Spin Bar in New York when the contract report dropped.
"The mood changed quickly. No one knew this was coming ... and we couldn't get any answers," a source said to the Daily Mail.
Stern went live on Wednesday despite being on break for the summer and the Daily Mail notes that Stern decided to broadcast the "emergency show" to "quell concerns he was finished."
Stern did not address the rumor directly on his show, but did tell listeners that he'd be back when the show returns Sept. 2.
Stern inked another five-year deal with SiriusXM in 2020, and the deal was reportedly worth $500 million in total.
Stern could sign a one- or two-year deal instead of a long-term deal, the Daily Mail reported. If he doesn't return, Stern is expected to sell his catalog of shows to Report Details Howard Stern's and Staff's 'Shock' Over Contract Rumor first appeared on Men's Journal on Aug 6, 2025
