East Coast's longest sled run in West Virginia opens Christmas week

DAVIS, (WBOY) — The longest sled run on the East Coast is scheduled to open for the year just in time for Christmas. The sled run off Canaan Loop Road Tucker County's Blackwater Falls State Park is a quarter-mile long—one of the longest in the country, but the big draw is that a 'wonder carpet' or small conveyer takes sledders to the top of the hill so they don't have to walk up it. The run is well maintained, and tickets can be purchased for a two-hour time slot. The first day the sled run will operate this season is on Saturday, Dec. 21. By that time, multiple ski slopes in the Davis area will also be open, giving adventure seeking options for winter recreation activities in Tucker County. Land between Canaan Valley and Dolly Sods turned into new preserve A two-hour session on the run costs $28-33, depending on the day you go, and the run is open Thursday-Saturday, with additional operating dates around Christmas and New Year's. The sled run will be open, weather permitting, through the first weekend in March. Kids under five are free with a paying adult. More information and ticket sale information is available on the West Virginia State Parks website. If you're looking for other sledding experiences in West Virginia, Harpers Ferry's Tubing Hill at River Riders, which is the longest designated tubing slope in the East Coast, is already open for the season, and the tubing hill at Chestnut Ridge Park in Monongalia County is expected to open later this month.
