Eight Florida Gators named to 2025 Preseason Coaches All-SEC Team
The 2025 edition of the coaches' preseason All-SEC Teams was released on Tuesday and included eight members of Florida football's roster for the upcoming campaign. Redshirt senior offensive linemen Jake Slaughter and Austin Barber both earned first-team honors to lead the Gators, while redshirt senior defensive lineman Caleb Banks, senior kicker Trey Smack, and redshirt senior long-snapper Rocco Underwood were second-team mentions. Sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Eugene Wilson III and edge defender Tyreak Sapp round out the nominations on the third team. For Slaughter, this is his seventh first-team nomination and second for an All-SEC first team while Barber earned his second preseason All-SEC first-team nomination after being named to the media's first-team selection following SEC Media Days. Banks earned his third preseason All-SEC second-team honors entering his third season in Gainesville, Smack got his second preseason All-SEC second-team call for both the place kicker and kickoff specialist positions, and Underwood also earned his second All-SEC second-team nomination following his Patrick Mannelly Award-winning campaign in 2024. Lagway got his first All-SEC honor after not being chosen by the media following SEC Media Days while Wilson, who is coming off a season-ending injury last fall, is looking to pick up where he left off. Sapp was named to the preseason Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List following a season in which he led the Gators with seven sacks and 13 tackles-for-loss for 48 yards while tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles. Notre Dame CB Leonard Moore, LB Drayk Bowen named to 2025 Bednarik Award Watch List
It's been a notable offseason for Notre Dame football when it comes to preseason accolades, and that continued when two more players were named to a notable watch list. Cornerback Leonard Moore and linebacker Drayk Bowen have been named to the 2025 Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List. The award honors the most outstanding defensive player in college football. The only former Fighting Irish player to win this award was linebacker Manti Te'o in 2012. Moore had a standout 2024 season, becoming the FWAA freshman defensive player of the year after replacing an injured Christian Gray and eventually an injured Ben Morrison in the starting lineup. In 10 starts, he recorded 48 tackles, 11 pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Meanwhile, Bowen started all 16 games last season and finished third on the team with 78 tackles, and he also led the team with three forced fumbles. He's a team leader as well as the most experienced linebacker on the roster.
