Rodgers finding Metcalf during team drills, one-on-ones get intense at Steelers training camp

Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf continued building chemistry during Steelers training camp on Thursday. Rodgers found Metcalf several times during team drills. Metcalf himself made a couple of really athletic plays. This was also one of the more physical practices so far - especially during one-on-one competition drills between receivers and defensive backs. It led to a couple of scuffles - including a few punches thrown between Metcalf and new safety Chuck Clark. Metcalf said after practice, heightened competition with this defense is only going to help. 'I mean, I like going against competitive people and they are a group of competitive people from the D-line to the linebackers to the DBs, like from the safeties to the corners. Everybody's talking, everybody's being physical at the point of the tag and that's what I can appreciate going against these guys,' said Metcalf. Pittsburgh Steelers Re-Sign Massive Nose Tackle

The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed nose tackle Domenique Davis, the team announced on Tuesday, as part of a series of roster moves. Davis, 29, had been with the Steelers throughout the offseason, but was released on July 25, when the team signed safety Chuck Clark. The team re-signed Davis, in addition to adding running back Lew Nichols and tight end Kevin Foelsch, while releasing running back/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson and waiving/injured outside linebacker Jeremiah Moon and wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig. Davis first signed with the Steelers last November, spending a month on the practice squad after being released by the Cincinnati Bengals. He did not play a game for the Steelers last season, and was released on Dec. 6. Davis re-signed in Cincinnati, closing out the 2024 season with the Bengals, but when he was a free agent this offseason, he picked Pittsburgh, citing his preference to play nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. 'It's definitely built for me,' he said this spring. 'I played under Tim Lewis before in the USFL. I already know it suits my talents better.' A 6-foot-2, 326-pound native of Laurinburg, North Carolina, Davis played collegiately at Division II UNC-Pembroke. He went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft and was signed by the New York Jets, but was released with a failed physical designation later that summer. Two years later, Davis resurrected his career with the Houston Gambles of the USFL. He played in 1o games with the Gamblers in the spring of 2022, recording 24 tackles and four sacks. Davis turned that USFL experience into a contract with the Bengals. He was released coming out of training camp, but was re-signed to the practice squad, and made his NFL debut, replacing an injured D.J. Reader as a call-up. After playing two games in 2022, Davis re-signed with the Bengals for 2023, was again released after training camp and signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster last Dec. 22, after another injury to Reader, but did not play in any games. He one again re-signed with Cincinnati for 2024, was released after training camp, and signed to the Bengals practice squad, but Cincinnati cut him from their practice squad on Oct. 22. Davis will rejoin Yahya Black, Logan Lee, Esezi Otomewo and Jacob Slade in the the rotation for third-team defensive line reps at training camp. Steelers sign veteran safety, waive fifth-year defensive tackle at training camp

At Friday's training camp, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran safety Chuck Clark and waived DT Domenique Davis. Clark, who was drafted by the Ravens with the 186th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, has 75 games of starting experience. After six seasons in Baltimore, Clark signed with the New York Jets in 2023 but unfortunately tore his ACL in June of that year. Clark started 12 games for the Jets in 2024 but suffered a torn pectoral on December 31, ending his season prematurely. Davis, a fifth-year defensive tackle who spent time with the Jets and Bengals, appeared in just two games since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Steelers in January but unfortunately will have to compete on a 90-man roster elsewhere. Those in attendance at training camp were treated to an early arrival from Clark, who will wear No. 21 this upcoming season.
