Chery Tiggo fends off late Cignal rally to clinch PVL On Tour finals berth

Chery Tiggo held off a late rampage from Cignal to complete a 25-17, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23 win during their semifinals bout in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The win allowed the Crossovers to return to the finals round for the first time since 2021, when they ruled the Open Conference to emerge as the first-ever titleholder since the league turned professional. ?Chery Tiggo now awaits the winner between Creamline and PLDT. Cess Robles and Ara Galang were at the forefront of offense for the Norman Miguel-helmed crew with both players posting 15 points with the former NU standout grabbing 11 digs and 11 receptions for a triple-double outing. Imee Hernandez chipped in 12 points highlighted by four blocks while rookie Renee Peñafiel chipped in 10 markers to help Chery Tiggo return to a finals stage for the first time after four years. But the Crossovers faced a few bumps along the way. Already enjoying a 16-10 lead in Set 4, Chery Tiggo had to weather a desperate rally from the HD Spikers, who leaned on Heather Guino-o and rookie Jessa Ordiales to unleash a 5-1 run. But Chery Tiggo responded with a 5-1 run of its own capped by an attack error from Guino-o to create a 22-16 separation. Guino-o then atoned for that mishap, hammering one from the left wing before serving an ace to help Erika Santos lead a 4-1 response as they pulled within one point, 22-23. Hernandez, though, completed a quick kill before Santos retaliated with another solid kill from the opposite side for a 23-24 deficit. But Galang finished what she started, swinging from the right side to seal the deal. "Nakaka-proud 'yung buong team, 'yung players namin, 'yung mga kasama ko sa coaching staff, tapos 'yung mga PT. Masaya kasi hindi naman talaga madali 'yung pinagdadaanan namin, especially these past few days," Miguel said. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Erika Santos' 30-point explosion carries Cignal to QF; Creamline halts Chery Tiggo

Erika Santos powered Cignal to a hard-earned rebound victory with an explosive outing to lead her team past a spirited ZUS Coffee squad, 25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, in the PVL On Tour on Sunday at the City of Passi Arena The power-hitting opposite spiker erupted for a career-high 30 points to go with eight digs as the HD Spikers improved to 4-1 and clinched a quarterfinals spot in the preseason showcase. The Thunderbelles, who were just coming off a five-set stunner over perennial champion Creamline a day before, fell to an even 2-2 slate even after another huge outing from Chinnie Arroyo. Arroyo, whose 23-point performance against the Cool Smashers paved the way for ZUS Coffee's breakthrough win against Creamline, dropped 20 points this time around. "Hindi lang ako nakukuntento sa kung ano pa 'yung kaya kong gawin. Gusto ko pang matuto and malaman 'yung areas for correction," Santos said. "Ito 'yung first time ko na umabot ng 20 pataas. Bumalik lang kami, in-acknowledge namin 'yung nangyari, 'yung mga pagkakamali, 'yung mga lapses. Hindi lang kami nag-stop." [I'm just not content. I want to learn and I want to know the areas for correction... This is my first time to reach 20 and above. We just came back, we acknowledged what happened, what went wrong, the lapses. We just didn't stop.] Creamline, meanwhile, also learned a lot from that loss as the multi-titled squad carved out a 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18 win against erstwhile unbeaten Chery Tiggo. Alyssa Valdez unleashed a vintage performance with her 19 points anchored on 16 attacks and three aces while other veterans Jeanette Panaga and Michele Gumabao chipped in 17 markers apiece as they snapped a rare two-game losing streak to improve to 3-2 in Pool B. The Crossovers, who emerged victorious in their last three games including a four-set upset against fellow unbeaten Cignal oon Saturday, fell to 3-1 slate. "Syempre 'yung yesterday hindi maganda 'yung pagkatalo namin. Medyo masikip 'yung standing so nanalo kami ngayon," Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses said. [Of course, with yesterday, it wasn't good that we lost. The standings are tight so we got the win today.] —JMB, GMA Integrated News

PVL: Erika Santos dazzles as Cignal beats Creamline for the first time in three years

Erika Santos shone anew for the red-hot Cignal as the HD Spikers picked up their first win over Creamline after three years with a 25-22, 25-18, 28-26 victory in the PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre. The opposite hitter scattered 18 points anchored on 14 attacks, two blocks, and two aces to help Cignal preserve its unbeaten run with a 3-0 slate in Pool B while also dealing the Cool Smashers their first loss to go 2-1. Cignal had to overcome multiple deficits early in Set 3 with Sheena Toring bringing Creamline to a 16-14 lead off a quick hit. But Cignal went on a surge after Santos served up an ace to fuel a 4-0 run that allowed them to take an 18-16 cushion. Heather Guino-o then came up big at the right time, unleashing two kills in a 5-2 blast that saw the HD Spikers take a 23-18 advantage. Creamline, though, displayed its championship poise after Michele Gumabao soared for the cross court hammer before Santos committed back-to-back attack errors as the Cool Smashers forced a 24-all deadlock. It was Ishie Lalongisip who would finish it off after she connected on two consecutive attacks from the left side, the last of which she punished the floor defense of Alysa Valdez, to deliver the victory. Lalongisip posted 15 points laced with 10 receptions and seven digs while Roselyn Doria chipped in 10 markers to mark Cignal's first win against Creamline since the 2022 Reinforced Conference semifinals. —JMB, GMA Integrated News

Perpetual star KC Andrade joins powerhouse Cignal in Spikers' Turf

KC Andrade is taking his winning attitude to the next level as he joined a star-studded Cignal HD Spikers team in the 2025 Spikers' Turf competition. The former University of Perpetual Help System DALTA middle blocker is the latest addition to the HD Spikers alongside other recruits in opposite spiker Jayrack Dela Noche, outside hitter Vince Maglinao, and Filipino-Canadian libero Lhexen Rabit. Andrade is a proven winner in college, helping the ALTAs clinch a historic four-peat title run in NCAA Season 99, where he was named Best Middle Blocker together with Letran's Vince Himzon. In the previous Season 100, Andrade and the ALTAs finished joint fifth with an identical 10-8 record with San Beda University. 'We're looking to continue to build on the Cignal HD brand of excellence for men's volleyball,' said HD Spikers head coach Dexter Clamor. "Kami nga yung pinakamatagal na pro squad here sa Philippines and we're always looking for ways to improve. Hopefully, with these new additions, we'll be ready to defend our crown in the upcoming conferences." Photo courtesy of Cignal At Cignal, the 24-year-old Andrade will reunite with his former Perpetual teammate and ex-NCAA MVP Louie Ramirez as they look to continue Cignal's winning formula next season. Andrade, Dela Noche, Maglinao, and Rabit will bolster an already-stacked Cignal roster that features the likes of Bryan Bagunas, JP Bugaoan, Lloyd Josafat, Joshua Retamar, and Joshua Umandal. Cignal is coming off a third straight title in the Open Conference after outlasting rival Criss Cross last April. ?—Bea Micaller/JMB, GMA Integrated News
