Braxton Brewing Co. to take over Hi-Wire Brewing's Norwood taproom at Factory52
Braxton Brewing Company is taking over Hi-Wire Brewing's taproom in Norwood, making it the the fifth location in the growing craft brewer's portfolio. Covington-founded Braxton Brewing will transition the Hi-Wire's taproom at Factory52 into one of its own after both companies made the "mutual growth transition," according to a news release. The taproom will be temporarily closed until sometime in June for renovations. Braxton Brewing said it will retain current Hi-Wire employees from the Factory 52 location and several Hi-Wire beers will remain on tap. In addition, Braxton Brewing is taking over the green-space and full-service bar in front of the brewery, which they are calling The Porch. The brewery plans to continue offering family-friendly programming and events in the green space, including movie nights and pop-up events. The departure of Asheville, North Carolina-based Hi-Wire's northernmost taproom comes after Hurricane Helene destroyed much of the brewery's headquarters, flagship taproom and distribution warehouse in September 2024. "We had to look at our business and figure out the best path forward without knowing how we would recover from the flood," Hi-Wire co-founder Adam Charnack said in the news release. "We had to think about how to ensure the health of the business, and that meant making some hard choices." Hi-Wire opened its Cincinnati-area taproom in 2023, following expansions across North Carolina and in Louisville, Kentucky; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Nashville. Braxton Brewing recently opened a new location in Union, Kentucky in November. Guy Fieri reveals Cincinnati chili order, calls town 'really cool' food city
The Mayor of Flavortown declared Cincinnati "one of the really cool food cities" with "next-level chefs" in a visit to Jungle Jim's on May 5. Emmy-winning TV presenter and celebrity chef Guy Fieri, best known for his Food Network show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," gushed about the Queen City's culinary scene during an appearance he made at Jungle Jim's in Eastgate to promote his Santo Spirits brand. "Cincinnati continues to grow and emerge as one of the really cool food cities. You've got a lot of culture, a lot of history and then you've got all kinds of next-level chefs coming up," Fieri said at the Jungle Jim's event, which was open to the public. Fieri added that he filmed at three Cincinnati-area restaurants as part of his beloved "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" series, but he won't share which they are yet. "(They) are what I call 'destination restaurants,' like you would drive a couple hours to come and get to one of these restaurants. And I'm not going to tell you what they are yet. You probably already know, but they're big and they're hot. Get ready," the restaurateur said. Fieri, who proclaimed he's a Cincinnati-style chili-lover, said his go-to order is a five-way, though he wishes he could go beyond and add even more toppings. "I like spice, I want jalapeños, but I don't think you can go past a five-way right?" Fieri said. "If you go to Flavortown with it ... because how great would it be to have some crumbled-up Fritos on top and some jalapeños on top, maybe some fried shallots. I could let it roll." The TV personality added that he tried a Cincinnati chili pizza earlier in the day, which he called "jaw-dropping." Fieri's tequila brand, which is a collaboration between him and his friend, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar, launched in 2019 with a selection of tequilas featuring bold and authentic flavors. Fieri and Hagar's brand has several award-winning spirits, including Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, a 110-proof Blanco Tequila and Mezquila, the world's first tequila and mezcal blend. Cincinnati Bengals Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins visit local amusement park
Cincinnati Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins took to the Queen City's premier amusement park this weekend. Social media posts on May 18 show Chase and Higgins walking around Kings Island, a Cincinnati-area amusement and water park about 24 miles northeast of Downtown. More: Ja'Marr Chase impersonator angers Bengals fans at Kings Island Opening Day In one post, Chase is seen shooting some hoops at one of the Kings Island' game stands. A photo was posted on Instagram by football fashion account blitzfits, showing Chase and Higgins at the amusement park. A few years ago, a Chase impersonator left fans high and dry when they arrived at Kings Island and learned the Bengal look-a-like was not the real person. In this case, it was the real deal. After Chase and Higgins' May 17 visit, the duo reposted the photo of them at Kings Island on their Instagram stories. Chase and Higgins are two leading wide receivers for the Bengals. Chase was reported in March to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with a new four-year deal worth $161 million. Higgins' $115 million contract puts both him and Chase in the top 10 of salaries for the wide receiver position. More: Ja'Marr Chase doesn't like Cincinnati's food? Honduran man arrested for stealing from Kroger to serve time for being in US illegally
A Honduran national who had been arrested for stealing thousands of dollars in products from Cincinnati-area Kroger stores was sentenced to 10 months in prison for illegally reentering the country. Jorge Alberto Marroquin Membrano, who also went by aliases of Oscar Castro and Jonathan Morrell, was sentenced in federal court in Cincinnati on May 13. U.S. District Judge Matthew McFarland handed down the sentence. Membrano had pleaded guilty in December 2024. Membrano was living in West Price Hill before he was arrested under one of his aliases in August 2024 on numerous theft charges. Authorities said Membrano stole over $2,300 in products from Kroger grocery stores in Delhi and Harrison, according to court documents. In several of the cases, police said Membrano stole steaks, laundry and cleaning products by pushing a shopping cart, sometimes more than one, out of the store without paying. After a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office investigation led deputies to discover Membrano's true identity and address, he was taken into custody. Membrano was booked at the Hamilton County Justice Center and his fingerprints were taken and shared with the FBI, who alerted Immigration and Customs Enforcement, court documents say. ICE records referenced in court documents show Membrano has been deported from the United States at least six times, first in 2006 and most recently in 2019, mostly in the southern United States. Membrano's attorney said in court documents he left Honduras and came to the United States in 1993 on a visa to see his mother, who lives in Ohio. His siblings and two children, 13 and 20 years old, also live in the area, which has led him to continue to return to the country. Membrano, 47, has been previously convicted of reentering the country three times, officials said in court documents. After Membano serves his 10 months in prison, federal officials said "it is almost certain" he will be deported again.
