Sacramento International Airport sets all-time passenger record, busiest month in history
( — Sacramento International Airport achieved the busiest month in its airport history with 1,296,818 passengers travelling through SMF in June, according to airport officials. The record culminates 19 months of consistent year-over-year growth at SMF, which served 13,822,315 passengers in fiscal year 2025, which also set a record. Historically July has been SMF's busiest month. SMF currently offers more than 202 peak day flights on 11 domestic and international carriers, connecting travelers to 52 nonstop destinations. Sacramento International Airport launches nonstop flights to Morelia, Michoacán
( — Sacramento International Airport (SMF) announced a new nonstop route to Morelia, Michoacán (MLM) with Volaris starting on the Fourth of July. A spokesperson from SMF said that this addition is on top of the current nonstop being offered to Guadalajara (GDL), Mexico City (MEX), and León (BJX). They said this route is being implemented to provide a convenient travel option for passengers who have ties to Mexico. Man arrested in fatal shooting in Sacramento This new service will operate four times per week Monday, Wednesday, Fridays, and Saturdays with a set schedule, said officials. Flying from MLM, the departure time will be at 7:13 p.m. and it is set to arrive at 10:30 p.m. SMF The starting flight from SMF to MLM will begin at 11:59 p.m. and will arrive the next day at 4:52 a.m. 'We are excited to welcome Volaris' new nonstop service to Morelia, a city with deep connections to our Sacramento community,' said Cindy Nichol, Director of the Sacramento County Department of Airports. 'This route not only enhances connectivity to Mexico but also supports economic growth by facilitating trade and tourism between our regions.' SMF spokesperson said in a press release, that it continues to expand its international offerings to help strengthen its role as a key gateway for travelers in Northern California. 'The launch of this new route between Sacramento, California, and Morelia, Michoacán, reaffirms our commitment to providing our customers with the best travel options between the United States and Mexico,' said Holger Blankenstein, Executive Vice President of Volaris. 'This new air connection strengthens ties with familial roots and loved ones on both sides of the border. Sacramento International Airport served record number of passengers in 2024
( — The Sacramento International Airport said it served more passengers in 2024 than it ever had in a year. According to the airport, 13,634,838 passengers flew through SMF, an increase of 5.1% from the previous year. '2024 was an incredible year for SMF,' Cindy Nichol, Sacramento County Department of Airports Director said. 'Not only did the Airport serve more travelers than ever before, but we also broke ground on several critical pieces of our SMForward program, including the 5,500-space parking garage and the Pedestrian Walkway, an elevated skyway between Terminal B and Concourse B.' Southwest adding four new daily flights from Sacramento International Airport in 2025 This year the airport also expects to open at least 13 new restaurants for passengers to eat and drink at, some of which will be outposts of existing Sacramento establishments like Temple Coffee.
