Ciner Glass shelves investment plan for Ebbw Vale plant
Ciner Glass has announced it will not move forward with its proposal for a glass bottling facility in Blaenau Gwent, following a review that found significant changes in UK market demand. The company remains in talks with the Welsh Government to purchase the site on the Rassau industrial estate and is exploring alternative investment options for the location. Didem Ciner, chair of the board at Ciner Glass, said: "We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to the UK and Welsh Governments, as well as members of Blaenau Gwent County Council, for the support and engagement shown throughout the development of this project. "We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Blaenau Gwent, who have warmly welcomed the Ciner family and company over the past three years. "We remain deeply appreciative of the community's support and committed to supporting local projects where possible." The company has already invested nearly £20 million in the project, including funding for social enterprise schemes, research and development with universities, and industry partnerships. A spokesman for Blaenau Gwent Council said: "We acknowledge today's announcement from Ciner Glass regarding changes to its investment plans in Blaenau Gwent, and confirmation that the company will not be proceeding with its original proposal for a glass bottling facility at Rassau Industrial Estate, Ebbw Vale. "We welcome the company's statement reinforcing its continued commitment to Blaenau Gwent and to long-term investment in Wales and the UK."

Turkish firm Ciner abandons plan for 600-job new glass bottling plant in Ebbw Vale Ciner said it would now explore other possible investment opportunities at the site Ciner Glass. Turkish industrial group Ciner has abandoned plans for a new glass bottling plant in Ebbw Vale that promised to created 600 new jobs. The family-owned group, which is one of the biggest firms in Turkey, said the business case for the £390m project, first announced back in 2020, was no longer viable following changes to demand in the UK marketplace. However, it confirmed it was in discussions with the Welsh Government over acquiring the site at the Rassau Industrial Estate. However, the wide-ranging group is particularly interested in solar panels, lithium batteries and other innovations within the renewables sector aligned to its glass and soda ash businesses. Change of plans for Ebbw Vale glass factory
A company which was set to open a glass factory in Ebbw Vale has changed its investment plans. Ciner Glass announced it would not proceed with its plans for a new glass bottling facility but was seeking alternative investment projects for the same site. The original plans for the factory, which is based on the Rassau Industrial Estate, was set to create 650 jobs. A spokesperson for the company said it remained fully committed to making long-term investments in the UK and south Wales. The decision not to proceed with the initial plans follows an extensive review of the commercial viability of its previous scheme, which has shown significant changes in UK market company said there would be no impact on the community and sporting initiatives it supports, including Ebbw Vale Rugby Club and the Welsh Rugby Union's Fit , Fed, Fun campaign.A spokesperson for Blaenau Gwent Council said it acknowledged the changes in plans.
