What is the status of Smart Cities Mission projects in Uttar Pradesh?
Smart Cities Mission: Launched on June 25, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) aims to enhance the quality of life in cities through smart and sustainable solutions. The SCM's goal is to develop cities that are economically vibrant, inclusive and environment friendly.
With 100 cities driving the initiative, the Smart Cities Mission has achieved significant progress over the last one decade. In Uttar Pradesh, ten cities have been selected under the SCM. These are – Agra, Aligarh, Bareilly, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Moradabad, Prayagraj, Saharanpur and Varanasi.
During the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth raised a question to Minister of State (MoS) for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, regarding the total number of projects completed under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) in various cities across Uttar Pradesh. He also requested on the status of Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCCs), details of fund utilization under the mission, and the timeline for completing the remaining projects.
Responding to this on Monday (July 28), Sahu said that out of a total 893 projects amounting to Rs 21,156 crore, 883 projects amounting to Rs 20,832 have been completed.
'As on 11.07.2025, out of a total 893 projects amounting to ₹ 21,156 crore, 883 projects (99% of total projects) amounting to ₹20,832 crore have been completed and the remaining 10 projects amounting to ₹324 crore are ongoing,' he said.
The Union Minister also stated that ICCCs are operational in all the 10 cities selected under the SCM. 'The Integrated Command and Control Centres are operational in all the 10 cities selected under SCM in the State of Uttar Pradesh,' he noted.
'As on 11.07.2025, the ten cities of the State of Uttar Pradesh selected under SCM have been able to claim central financial assistance of ₹4900 crore i.e. 100% of the total Central share allocation and the cities are reported to have utilized ₹4,876 crore i.e. 99.5% of the total Central share claimed,' the minister said in a written statement in Rajya Sabha.
