Blood Brothers actors witness firsthand KL police anti-vice raids
KUALA LUMPUR: The action film Blood Brothers: Bara Naga casts Syazwan Zulkifly and Andy Teh were recently given a rare, firsthand look into the police's anti-vice operations.
The actors, who played the characters Jaki and Pablo in the film directed by Abhilash Chandra and Syafiq Yusof, described the experience as a real-world encounter they would not forget.
The Op Noda operation, which began around 12.30am, was carried out by the City Police Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division (D7), targeting prostitution activities involving foreigners in the Bukit Bintang area.
Andy described the experience as unforgettable and praised the efficiency of the D7 personnel during the raids.
"I followed the raids at four different locations. The police were incredibly fast. By the time we arrived, they had already apprehended the suspected prostitutes.
"I was mentally prepared for some action, maybe even a chase, but there was no chance. The police were way ahead," he told the New Straits Times.
For Syazwan, the most unforgettable moment came when he witnessed firsthand the lives of the women involved in prostitution in the city.
"This is an experience I'll never forget. I'll definitely draw from it for my future roles.
"During the third raid, we visited the place where they worked, their living quarters... We saw how they lived," he said.
In total, 23 foreign women suspected of being involved in prostitution were arrested during raids at six different locations around Bukit Bintang.
Among those detained were nine Ugandan women, six from Cambodia, three from Tanzania, and one each from Myanmar, Nigeria, Kenya and Senegal.
A Nigerian man was also arrested.
Police also seized 40 condoms, tissues, towels, and RM400 in cash.
All detainees were held for investigation under Section 372B of the Penal Code for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for abusing valid entry permits.
