Historic Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake announces closure for most public events
CHESAPEAKE — Historic Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake announced Thursday that it's immediately closing most of its operations to the public except for some seasonal events.
'It is with sincere regret that we announce Greenbrier Farms will be closed to the public outside of our traditional Christmas, Strawberry, and Pumpkin seasons, effective immediately,' the farm said in a Facebook post on Thursday. 'This difficult decision comes as a result of increasing operational restrictions and pressure from the City of Chesapeake Permitting and Zoning as well as the Chesapeake Health Department.'
When reached Thursday afternoon, a Chesapeake city spokesperson was not immediately able to comment. A representative for the farm could not be reached Thursday.
According to the Facebook post, the farm will also no longer be open to the public for visits to the playground, barnyard animals, or to walk the grounds.
The more than century old historic farm, located just off the Chesapeake Expressway, spans 500 acres and hosts a variety of special events, including weddings. The farm drew a crowd of thousands when it hosted a rally for President Donald Trump last summer.
