BBVA to invest $5.2 billion in Mexico through 2030
MEXICO CITY, May 27 (Reuters) - Spanish bank BBVA ( opens new tab plans to invest more than 100 billion pesos ($5.19 billion) in Mexico through 2030, it said in a statement on Tuesday. The investment is part of BBVA's long-term bet on the Latin American nation, the firm added. "The 100 billion pesos that we are announcing is not only an investment," BBVA chair Carlos Torres Vila said in the announcement. "It's a commitment to the more than 30 million customers we serve in the country." BBVA added that it was looking to further strengthen its corporate banking presence in the nation and boost customer service. ($1 = 19.2575 Mexican pesos)

Yara Sameh An 'Extraction' TV series has been greenlit at Netflix. Omar Sy will lead the series, which is set in the same world as the Netflix film franchise. The streaming giant has commissioned eight episodes of the series. The first 'Extraction' film, which starred Chris Hemsworth, was released on Netflix in 2020. Hemsworth returned for the sequel in 2023. The films were based on the graphic novel 'Ciudad' by Ande Parks. Glen Mazzara serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes and Chris Castaldi executive produce for AGBO, with Sam Hargrave, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin also executive producing. Joe Russo wrote the screenplay for both films and produced along with Anthony, Gitter, and Schwerin. Hargrave directed both films, with AGBO producing. The official logline for the series states, 'Set in the high-octane world of 'Extraction,' this action thriller follows a mercenary (Sy) as he navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.' The series keeps Sy in business with Netflix, as he stars in the streamer's hit French thriller series 'Lupin.' The show sees Sy playing Assane Diop, a professional thief who imitates the literary character Arsène Lupin. The show has released 17 episodes across two seasons thus far, with more in development. 'Lupin' met with strong critical acclaim upon its release and currently ranks as one of the top 10 most-watched non-English language Netflix series of all time. Sy is also known for his roles in shows like 'SAV des émissions' and for films such as 'Intouchables,' 'Jurassic World,' 'Chocolat,' 'The Killer,' and 'The Takedown.'

Netflix Orders ‘Extraction' Spinoff TV Series Starring Omar Sy
The 'Extraction' universe is expanding at Netflix. The streaming service has greenlit a new series set in the same world as its Chris Hemsworth-led 'Extraction' films, with Omar Sy in the lead role. Former 'Walking Dead' writer Glen Mazzara has been tapped as the thriller series' showrunner and he will executive produce alongside AGBO's Anthony and Joe Russo and Angela Russo-Otstot, as well as Scott Nemes, Chris Castaldi, Eric Gitter, Peter Schwerin and 'Extraction' director Sam Hargrave. 'Audiences are in for a thrill as we delve deeper into the 'Extraction' universe,' Peter Friedlander, vice president of Scripted Series at Netflix, said in a Thursday statement. 'With Omar Sy leading the charge, our collaboration with the Russos alongside Glen Mazzara, fans can expect even more of the high-octane adventures they love from the 'Extraction' franchise.' The new eight-episode series will follow a mercenary (Sy) as he embarks on a deadly mission to rescue hostages in Libya, where he finds himself trapped between 'warring factions and ruthless killers.' Sy, for his part, is already the star of the popular French Netflix series, 'Lupin.' Known for their maximalist action sequences, the 'Extraction' films center on a black ops mercenary (Hemsworth) who is hired to extract imprisoned hostages from dangerous international locations. Both movies were written by Joe Russo and based on the 2014 'Ciudad' graphic novel he made with his brother Anthony, Ande Parks, Fernando León González and Eric Skillman. 'I'm a very lucky man.
