Alas Pilipinas falls short vs Vietnam in SEA V.League
The Alas Pilipinas Women fell short against Vietnam, 25-14, 30-28, 25-22, on Friday to open its Leg 2 campaign in the SEA in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.
After a slow start that led to a dominant first set win for the host country, the Philippines made sure to give the Vietnamese squad a tough challenge in its home stand.
In the third set, Vietnam was leading 19-15 before the Philippines went on a 4-0 run, with Alas capitalizing on their opponents' errors. Vietnam then broke the dry spell and pulled ahead, 21-19, before Eya Laure and Cla Loresco tied the set.
Thi Kieu Trinh Hoang then scored for Vietnam before errors plagued Alas' late-game rally. An error, this time from the Vietnam side, gave a glimmer of hope for the Philippines, but a back row attack from Thi Nhu Quynh Vi sealed the victory for the hosts.
In the first leg, Vietnam also defeated Alas in four sets.
Prior to the match, some changes were made to the lineup, with Loresco and Maddie Madayag coming in for Thea Gagate and Leila Cruz.
Alas Pilipinas will face Thailand next on Saturday.
