Ewan McGregor harkens back to Trainspotting character with charity head shave
Actor Ewan McGregor has shaved his head to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. A video shared by the charity shows his daughter Clara assisting him with the shave. McGregor, 54, stated he undertook the act to 'stand with people living with cancer' and to help raise critical funds, noting he knows many affected by the disease. Ewan McGregor channels Trainspotting character as he braves the shave for cancer charity
Ewan McGregor has 'braved the shave' and cut all his hair off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. In a video shared by the charity on Saturday (16 August), the actor can be seen with a hair cutting gown draped around him as his daughter Clara shaves his head. 'It's taking me back', he said, appearing to reference his character Renton in the 1996 film Trainspotting, who sports a buzz cut. The 54-year-old shared that he knows lots of people affected by the disease, and added that he was getting rid of his hair to 'stand with people living with cancer' whilst helping raise critical funds so 'no one faces it alone'.

Ewan McGregor shaves his head in support for Macmillan Cancer Support
The Trainspotting and Star Wars star's daughter, Clara McGregor, shared a video of her family helping to shave her father's head to help raise awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support. Sharing the short video on Instagram, McGregor shared that he has had friends and family who have been affected by cancer. He added he was braving the shave to 'stand with people living with cancer' while helping raise vital funds. READ MORE: Billy Connolly warns fans being 'targeted' by AI deepfake scams Macmillan Cancer Support offers a wide range of services to help individuals and their families cope with the physical, emotional, practical, and financial impacts of cancer, as well as raise awareness and support people who provide cancer patient care. Joined by his family, who helped shave McGregor's head, he joked, 'it's taking me back' in reference to his shaved look in the cult classic Trainspotting. He said: 'Today I am braving the shave for Macmillan Cancer Support. 'To stand with people living with cancer and to raise funds so that no one needs to face it alone. 'Like lots of people, I've had friends and family who have all been affected by cancer, and I've seen how tough it can be raising the shave is a small act, but it can make a big difference in raising awareness and funds so that everyone across the UK gets the support that they need. 'So here we go. Braving the shave.' McGregor said that there are 3.5 million people who are affected by cancer in the UK, while he urged others to join in and donate to the Brave The Shave campaign. According to Macmillan Cancer Support, more than £450,000 has been raised so far this year, with over 4400 people signing up to cut their hair off in support of the campaign. It added that with the money raised so far, it could help fund eight Macmillan nurses for a year. The charity added: 'Whatever your reason, whoever you do it for – your bold statement will help Macmillan support even more people living with cancer.'
