Another ‘BKI associate' held for April grenade attack in Punjab police station

A 22-year-old man was arrested by Delhi Police Special Cell on Saturday for allegedly harbouring terrorists attached to the banned terror organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and being involved in a grenade attack on Quila Lal Singh police station in Punjab in April. Karanbir alias Karan, hailing from Chananke village in Amritsar, was apprehended on July 26 from Gurdaspur under the Arms Act registered at the Special Cell police station. Police said he is a key accused in the April 7 grenade attack at Quila Lal Singh police station in Batala. 'He received money from his handler for executing the grenade attack. He also facilitated the stay of two persons at his home before the attack, who had executed the task of launching the grenade at Qila Lal Singh police station. His brother Gursewak, who was also involved in the attack, has already been arrested in the case,' DCP (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik said. Karanbir is the second alleged BKI terrorist arrested this week. Akash Deep – wanted in an illegal arms trafficking case in the Capital and the grenade attack on Lal Singh Quila police station – was arrested on Wednesday. 'Following leads based on Akash Deep's questioning, Karanbir alias Karan was arrested from Gurdaspur,' the DCP said. Karanbir, who has cleared Class 12, allegedly told the police that he was in contact with a BKI handler from Punjab, based abroad, through social media and was receiving instructions to carry out terror activities. 'He was instructed on encrypted apps in code language to act on behalf of BKI. He also visited an Asian country in 2024, to meet BKI operatives,' an officer said.

Manisha Koirala On When The Doctor Told Her She Had Cancer: "I Thought I'll Die"

London: Manisha Koirala recently spoke candidly about her health and revealed that she thought she was 'going to die', when she was diagnosed with cancer. Manisha Koirala also shared her views on politics, life, and work at a special event hosted by Here & Now 365 at The Chambers, Taj 51 Buckingham Gate, London. Reflecting on her personal battle with ovarian cancer in 2012, she shared, 'When the doctor told me I had cancer, I thought, this is it. I'm going to die. But by God's grace, I didn't. I learned to live again. Resilience isn't a heroic burst. It's a series of small choices, made moment by moment." In conversation with Manish Tiwari, founder of Here and Now 365, she shared her views on Nepal's political crisis. 'Every leader undoes what the previous leader did. That's why democracy doesn't seem to work in Nepal. No government lasts. I believe Nepal needs a monarchy on top so there's some balance," said the Heeramandi actress. Asked how she balances her family's political legacy with her own global fame, she said, 'I love my country deeply. But I worry, there's a longing for dignity and stability. We need to rebuild institutions, not just governments.' The actress spoke about her Bollywood career spanning over three decades and recalled how she began without formal training. 'I hadn't even finished Class 12 and suddenly I was standing next to Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar on a film set!' She starred in acclaimed films like 1942: A Love Story, Bombay, and Dil Se, but the fame took a toll on her, 'I burned out. I was working 18-19 hours a day… Slowly, I lost direction.' During the discussion, Tiwari suggested she could lead a global film project to showcase Nepal beyond the obvious. The actress said, 'That's a seed you've planted today… let's see what grows.' Concluding on a lighter note, she said, 'The Koirala women are so liberated, girls want to be a Koirala but no man wants to marry a Koirala girl!'

Coimbatore police fill potholes as civic body fumes

Tap tease In Eriodu Town Panchayat of Dindigul, villagers were delighted — at last, they were getting a water tap hooked up to the Cauvery Combined Water Scheme. The Karur Lok Sabha MP Jothimani was the guest of honour. She arrived with full fanfare, cut the ribbon (or turned the tap, in this case), and was met with cheers. But the elations dried up faster than a appalam in peak May sun. Moments after the MP left, villagers rushed in with buckets, visions of clean, gushing water in their heads. Instead was a pipe capped with plastic and — lo and behold — no tap. Fuming, they marched to the office of Eriodu Town Panchayat vice president Jeeva, who was just as baffled. He promptly lodged a complaint with the police. When questioned, the panchayat staff replied coolly that the tap was only a temporary arrangement. Some work is still pending. We'll put it back later. Arguments flowed faster and despite the drama, poor Jeeva was in deep waters; he still couldn't get the tap reinstalled. Saravanan MP Nip good cops in the bud In Coimbatore city, the roads were even more dotted than fly eggs on rotting meat. Accidents? Oh you mean everyday affairs. Tired of waiting for civic authorities to get out of their seats, the local police took matters into their own hands — literally. Officers started patching up potholes using cement from passing concrete mixers. Just a DIY civic fix beyond their duty to stop more crashes. Applause poured in. But, the initiative would soon hit a speed bump. Why? Turns out the civic body wasn't too thrilled about being outperformed by 'police with patch kits'. Egos slighted by the attention on their failure, they nudged the police to back off. Coimbatore's roads are back to playing Jenga with commuters. R Kirubakaran Economical with the truth The Vellore district administration and a prominent university in the city recently played host to a very 'exclusive event' – the kind where PowerPoint slides flow freely but the truth? Quite selectively. Director of School Education Dr S Kannappan was all set to present an analysis of the Class 12 results at 10am. Naturally, the press was invited, however at the eleventh hour, the hosts 'postponed' it to 3.30pm. When clock struck magic hour, reporters trickled in only to find Kannappan mid way through the presentation, unpacking data on which subjects were sinking faster than political promises. Just as headlines started taking shape, the reporters were promptly escorted and served tea – clearly not the kind that spills. The message was clear – sip, don't scoop. Dheepthi OJ

Cleared Class 12th In 2025? Here Are 10 Documents Essential For College Admission

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other state boards have announced the Class 12 results, and students across the country are now busy shortlisting colleges and planning their next steps. As the college admission season begins, having the right documents ready is very important. Missing even one required paper can delay or even cancel your admission. Here are 10 key documents every student must keep in hand: 1. Class 10th and 12th Mark Sheets and Certificates These are the most basic documents required during admission. Make sure to carry both original and photocopies. If you haven't received the original mark sheets yet, a downloaded copy from the official CBSE website can be used temporarily. 2. Transfer Certificate (TC) A TC is issued by your school and confirms that you have officially left the institution. Most colleges won't process your admission without this. 3. Character Certificate This certificate from your school states that your conduct and behavior were satisfactory during your time there. It's a must-have for most institutes. 4. Medical Certificate Some courses and institutes, like the Merchant Navy or professional health programs, require a valid medical fitness certificate. It should be issued by a registered medical practitioner. 5. Entrance Exam Scorecard/Admit Card (if applicable) If you've appeared for entrance exams like CUET, JEE, NEET, etc., carry your scorecard and admit card. These are needed to confirm your eligibility. 6. Income Certificate (if applicable) For students applying under certain quotas or for scholarships based on family income, a government-issued income certificate is necessary. It should usually be issued by the local authorities or SDM. 7. Identification Proof A government-issued ID like Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport is essential for verification purposes. 8. Caste Certificate (if applicable) If you belong to SC, ST, OBC, or EWS categories and are applying under reservation quotas, a valid caste certificate is required. 9. Domicile Certificate (if applicable) Many colleges, especially those with state-level quotas, ask for a domicile certificate to prove that you are a resident of a particular state. 10. Passport-size Photographs Keep at least 6-8 recent passport-sized photographs ready. These will be needed for application forms, ID cards, and other official purposes. Students are advised to prepare both original documents and multiple photocopies. Some colleges have already started admissions, while others will begin soon. Keeping all documents ready in advance will help avoid last-minute stress and ensure a smooth admission process.
