Westminster Christian softball 3-0-1 at OB invitational. Plus state basketball and soccer honors and more
The Miami Westminster Christian School softball team went 3-0-1 at the Orange Bowl Fastpitch Invitational at Palmetto Bay Park.
The Warriors (5-3-1) defeated South Plantation, Pompano Beach and Miami Palmetto. They tied Pembroke Pines Somerset Academy.

State soccer honors
Plantation American Heritage senior midfielder Courtney Caruso is the Florida Dairy Farmers State Class 4A Girls' Soccer Player of the Year.
Caruso scored 7 goals and added 26 assists in helping the Patriots to a 19-1 record and the Class 4A state title. She signed to play soccer in college for NCAA Division III New York University.
Cindy Marcial also of Plantation American Heritage is the Class 4A Girls' Soccer Coach of the Year. Marcial led the Patriots to a 19-1 record and their third consecutive state championship (5A titles in 2023-24). It marked the seventh state title for Marcial (2014-16, 2019, 2023-25) at American Heritage.
They are finalists for overall Miss Soccer and State Girls' Soccer Coach of the Year honors, respectively.
A statewide panel of prep media members and girls' soccer coaches vote for those awards.
State basketball honors
The eight individual class finalists for the 2025 Florida Dairy Farmers State Miss Basketball and Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year were announced following balloting by a statewide panel of high school girls' basketball coaches and prep media members.
Every finalist was the leading vote-getter in their classification, making each the Player of the Year or Coach of the Year in their class. The two overall winners will be announced following a final round of balloting by coaches and media.
Markeli Jones-Tynes, a Fort Lauderdale Westminster Academy senior guard, is the state's Class 2A Girls' Basketball Player of the Year. She led the Lions to a 22-8 record and a spot in the regional final by averaging 16.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
Ochiel Swaby of Miami Country Day is the state's Class 2A Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year. He led the Spartans to a 20-11 record and a third consecutive state title, after winning the Class 3A championship in 2023 and 2024. In 21 years at MCD, Swaby has compiled a 466-141 record with 10 state championships.
