Lotto 6/49: New Brunswick woman wins $5M jackpot after playing the same lottery numbers for 30 years

For Denise Bérubé, playing the lottery has always been both a routine and a sentimental habit. Over the last 30 years, she has remained loyal to two things: Lotto 6/49 and a special set of numbers. That dedication has recently paid off in a big way. The Saint-André, N.B., woman won the $5-million Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot in the March 26, 2025 draw, all thanks to those numbers she never stopped playing. 'I've been playing Lotto 6/49 for a very long time, always with the same numbers that I chose a long time ago because they each had a significance,' Bérubé said, while claiming her prize with the Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC). 'Some numbers I do still remember why I picked them, but a few others I don't remember why. It's been that long that I've been playing the same numbers.' Over those three decades, plenty changed — including the structure of the game and Bérubé's switch from retail tickets to online play on But her numbers — 9, 13, 25, 30, 45, 49 — stayed exactly the same. Among them are meaningful milestones: a birthdate, her wedding anniversary, and the age at which she once hoped to retire. While she didn't retire at that exact age, Bérubé did step away from work last summer. Now, her jackpot win will help her enjoy that retirement to the fullest. First up is travelling with her husband and her sisters, with a dream trip to Africa topping her itinerary. Bérubé purchased the winning ticket on and admits she had to double-check before believing what she saw. 'I went on the website and saw I had a winner, and when I opened the ticket, I saw all those zeros, so I looked at the numbers and they were really my numbers,' Bérubé said. 'I was in shock. I said, 'Oh my God, I won the lotto.'' Lotto 6/49 gives players a chance to win two jackpots every Wednesday and Saturday for $3 per play. The Classic Draw offers a fixed $5 million jackpot, while the Gold Ball Draw guarantees at least $1 million — or a growing jackpot that starts at $10 million and can climb past $60 million. The odds of winning the Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot are 1 in 13,983,816. Because each draw is independent, the odds reset every time — meaning Bérubé's chances of winning didn't technically improve by playing the same numbers. But over 30 years of buying tickets for two draws a week, she entered roughly 3,000 draws, giving herself 3,000 separate chances to win. It may have taken decades, but her patience, consistency — and a little bit of luck — finally paid off. If you're looking to take a break from gambling, self-exclusion programs can be effective tools. See here for resources that are available across Canada.

Lotto 6/49: Calgary man puts off claiming $1M Gold Ball prize for 3 months in order to avoid the cold

Laszlo Kovacs isn't the biggest fan of winter. In fact, the Calgary man avoided claiming his Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball ticket for three months — all because he didn't want to go out in the cold. 'It was very cold,' said Kovacs at the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) prize centre. 'I don't like to drive far when it's like that.' He had purchased the ticket for the Nov. 20, 2024 draw but didn't scan it until December. That's when he discovered he'd won $1 million — a surprise that left him stunned. 'I couldn't believe it,' he said. 'I was jumping up and down inside!' Even after realizing he'd won big, Kovacs waited until March 2025 to officially claim his prize. He sat on the ticket, waiting for the weather to warm up before making the trip. 'I'm glad I kept the receipt!' he said. 'It helped me remember all the details months later.' The winning ticket was purchased at Sandstone Pharmacy, located at 4-3525 26 Avenue SE in Calgary. Kovacs won in the Gold Ball Draw with the selection 31765145-01 — a white ball worth $1 million. Before doing anything else, he plans to celebrate the win at home with his cat, Muci, who might be in for a few extra treats. 'He is already spoiled!' Kovacs said. 'He doesn't need any more toys — but will probably get some!' While the prize won't be funding anything too flashy, Kovacs says he's excited to use it in a meaningful way. 'I was raised to save my money,' he said. 'I may go on a trip though; I would love to go to Croatia!' One of his long-time dreams is to attend a soccer game abroad. 'I do cheer for a lot of football [soccer] teams, and I'd like to see one if I can!' he said. Even now with the warmer weather coming in, the reality of the win hasn't fully set in. 'I still can't wrap my head around it — it definitely makes life easier!' said Kovacs. Lotto 6/49 offers players the chance to win two multi-million-dollar jackpots on every $3 play. The Classic Draw offers a $5-million jackpot every Wednesday and Saturday. The Gold Ball draw, however, is a new format introduced in September 2022, and guarantees a winner every time. It starts at $10 million, and includes 30 balls in the draw: 29 white and 1 gold. Each white ball is worth $1 million, whereas the gold ball represents the lucky jackpot prize. This Gold Ball jackpot continues to grow by $2 million each time a white ball is drawn, until it reaches $68 million with no more white balls remaining — which then guarantees a Gold Ball winner. Mom wins $5M Lotto 6/49 jackpot shortly after moving to Alberta to be closer to her family: 'It's just perfect timing'

Raquel Wint's recent move to Alberta to be closer to her sister turned out to be more rewarding than she'd ever imagined. Shortly after settling in, she discovered she had won a staggering $5 million prize in the Dec. 14, 2024, Lotto 6/49 draw. 'It's just perfect timing,' said Wint, while picking up her prize with the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). 'I'm so grateful and I'm still in shock.' The life-changing win is already set to make a lasting impact for the winner. As a mother, Wint's top priority is securing her children's future and finally making a long-time dream a reality. 'I'm putting it into savings for my kids' future,' she said. 'But I'm really excited to finally buy my dream house so my kids can each have their own bedroom.' Beyond planning for her family, Wint also wants to give back and make some smart investments — while leaving a little room for fun. 'I can help my family and invest the rest,' she said. 'I'm also looking at a nice new car for myself!' Wint first realized she had won while checking her Lotto 6/49 tickets online. Seeing the matching numbers on her screen, she wasn't sure what to do next — so she turned to her family. 'I called my sister because I wasn't sure what to do,' she said. 'We went to the store to check it together!' When they arrived, she scanned her ticket and saw that she had matched all six numbers — 3, 4, 13, 16, 27 and 43 — in the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw, securing the $5 million jackpot. "My sister and I were thrilled," said Wint. The Lotto 6/49 Classic Jackpot draw is offered every Wednesday and Saturday, and is made up of six numbers drawn from a range of 1 to 49. If a ticket sold for the draw matches all six numbers, then that ticket wins the Classic Jackpot $5 million prize. Wint purchased her winning Lotto 6/49 ticket from 7-Eleven at 6502 50 Street in Beaumont, Alta. For the mother, the timing couldn't have been better — her fresh start in Alberta came with a great surprise.
